I drove past the store today while I was in Downtown Hackensack, New Jersey and it seemed that there were a lot of cars maybe a good sign I guess? Also the American is still flying high at the store.

I drove past a local Sears store in my area recently and the parking lot was full of cars.
One problem though....That store closed down several months ago.
So why all the cars in the parking lot?
A neighboring car dealership got permission from the mall to park excess new car inventory in the Sears lot since it was no longer being utilized.
That will likely change whenever a new tenant moves into the Sears building.
I was in the Hackensack store on Saturday. I would say it's about as busy as usual. But the number of cars in the lot is most definitely NOT reflective of the number of customers in the store.
And, in the end, it doesn't really matter. While the order of store shutdowns may be based on location, traffic, and - to a lesser extent - profitability, the end game (total shutdown) is all too clear by now.
People just park there and ride the bus to New York City. They also park there to go and shop the downtown area since sears doesn’t tow anyone. The store does get busy on the weekends only since it’s a heavy Hispanic community and they love sears.
