Thread regarding United Airlines (United Continental Holdings Inc. - UAL Corp.) layoffs

It has started!

For now, it's a job freeze and benefits, but for how long are we really safe?

United Airlines Holdings Inc. plans to trim flights, freeze hiring and halt merit pay raises as it grapples with a swift drop in travel demand because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Contractors have already been laid off. UAL thinks that they will lay off many contractors first so that the market does not come to know. But it’s ridiculous how they differentiate between employees and contractors. It’s just a matter of time that everyone knows it’s unequal HR policies...

I work at UA and layoffs seem inevitable. I understand that they're required to pay out unused PTO in the event of layoffs. In 2019, I bought a week of vacation from the "vacation buy" program. I didn't use it and requested a refund. If I'm laid off, will they pay this "bought vacation" back to me similarly to how they will for normal unused PTO?

It's gonna get worse before it gets better.
