SD, you really need to learn the difference between a bonus and pay at risk. A bonus is when those of us level34 and under bust our A– so that the company makes money. Our reward for going a fantastic job shouldn't be that "we get a salary" but that the company appreciates what we did and give us an extra payment. BONUS.

SD is a sneaky when he comes to the bonus structure. He’ll change the payouts last minute based on merit to reward some and not others, and likely introduce some new unheard of criteria to limit how much he has to pay. It’s not transparent. Not a man to be trusted under any circumstances.
I worked with HR years ago before moving to another function - execs got base pay, 30% bonus structure, RSUs($80k) and LTIPs ($50k) - the RSUs and LTIPs were pretty much guaranteed. Not sure if SP has taken all that away!
To be fair, I am a level 35 and my pay from 34 to 35 was very small with the bonus as the main kicker. I'd much rather a guaranteed 10% more spread out through the year than a potential for more or less than 10% with a failing company.

Bonus is a bonus, which is why it's call a bonus. Exactly.
If you are not on the pay at risk plan and the company performs well you get a bonus. That's what good companies who appreciate their employees do.
It has nothing to do with those at level 35 & higher. They deserve their pay as well.
But if you can't take care of the people who make your company run on a daily basis especially in this job market your turnover rate will be astronomical.
It is not a bonus at staples; pay at risk is correct. For equivalent roles at orgs outside of staples (level 35 and above) the average pay is higher. SD’s explanation was accurate.

That's the 'contract'. You show up, do your job and get paid.
