Our Union is holding a meeting Monday to negotiate contract before March 15th and our contract isn't up until october. Anybody know what that means?

Please get off your soapbox. It is a known fact that the techs in the field are responsible for the demise of Frontier. If you techs would have just installed orders in time and fixed the network, then we wouldn’t be in this mess.
And I'd love to see you work up in my area, like I said, rural with plenty of days below zero and feet of snow on the ground while you're sitting in your bucket truck referring tickets back "not my job" meanwhile the plant goes to c-ap because all you know how to do is frog pairs. And you act more like the millenial hiding from the safety of your keyboard in your mom's basement. And I said millenial referring to my age, not politics. You'd think being an elder you would have some respect, especially when you have no idea who you might be talking to. Have a good day.
Man I'd love to meet you face to face.
No union is weaker than IBEW in FL. Thats a fact.
NY Union is very weak, CWA has some pull but with BK on by end of this year. all Contracts will be voided. As a union stewart the only thing that was good with Union contract was Health care cost was covered at 89%. and they couldnt fire you for walking in with PINK shoes. beyond that they had no power or control of anything. Wage increase was a joke did not match inflation rates. They keep pushing to cut corners, lie to customers and down right awful to the employees.
I would save all the money you can, look for more stable job. Frontier is a dying dinosaur and is about time it tanked. They should have taken the deal with Time Warner to share connections on the coaxial cabling. Hopefully they can be broken up or sold to another company that will invest in fiber/Coaxial cable with government assistance in getting past the right- away/ privately owned poles to expand the network and increase stability to NY. I left after talking to the executive team who didn't know the difference between analog and Digital, only saw 34% increase in broadband sales, due to rep cancelling old accounts and creating new ones to get SPIFFS and commission checks.
Good luck everyone
You guys are funny going at it with each other. No I worked Union CWA and IBEW both. I lost my job a while back 25 years ago and I always had something to fall back on. The issue I've always found with the Union is they would always throw it back in my face. You should have came to the meetings. Yeah like that would have done a lot of good. No management wasn't any better sorry. I kept paying my dues because they said we can still represent you. Dues were taken out anyway so it's more of a lose-lose situation. The only thing I would say is make yourself marketable. You just never know what happens or could happen down the pike.......
If you are still relying on the union to keep you informed and provide protection, you are part of the problem. There is a reason people are leaving this company in droves. Stop the sheepishness, stop paying your dues to keep what little money you can until the bankruptcy gets announced, there is nothing the union can do to protect you from bankruptcy or provide you job security, the renewed CT contract might as well have been written in crayon on a napkin because a judge will rule that the labor contracts will need to be re-negotiated. Time to get out before its all gone!
Wow you sir are incompetent and apparently I struck some chord within you with my previous posts. I am the original poster and all I did was ask a simple question and I have full grown "adults" saying they are happy that I may be losing my job. I am not asking for a handout or any help, was just asking for relative information regarding my question. Since the company doesn't tell us anything, I was just looking for some insight from someone who may have been through a similar situation. I live in a rural area and worked non union jobs my whole life up until now getting paid half of what I make now, so yes this job is important to me and my work ethic from the non union days carried over until now. So I'm sorry that either frontier or some union hardened you like this but it's nothing I did to you.
You want answer? Find a new place to work. You cant pick and choose the information you are hearing so deal with it. You dont control the decisions your company makes but you control your future and fate-so do something about it. Get out of a union job which is obviously holding you in this position, apply yourself to something with a future-experience only makes you more qualified. While you are on your job hunt, I recommend you also grow up because the world is cruel and nobody cares about your crying and your union wont be there to protect you every time someone tells you to work because you took too many breaks or show up late everyday-earn it like everyone else has had to or continuing on the path your on and keep paying useless dues that have not helped you up to this point. This is the epitome of what labor unions were created for, you are not helping to positively represent your generation.
No, I'm just not a 30 year employee so I'm looking for some answers regarding a somewhat large change to my livelihood. Regardless of the company's downfalls or bad decisions, this is my job. I asked a serious question that can possibly largely impact my life. And I get children on here either saying I'm lying or that they're happy this is happening. I'm sorry not sorry if it isn't well received when I get angry. I'm a millennial and it seems like there are a few old timers that act like babies.
Yes this original post was regarding NY. I wish I could see you guys that wish bad upon us face to face. I would work circles around whoever you are and would do more after we're off the clock.
Our union in NY has our meeting wed foe this exact reason.
Union contracts only have to be renegotiated during a bankruptcy if the courts allow it. They are guaranteed. A judge has to allow for a renegotiation to take place. Usually a judge will only allow, this if they feel that the current contact is weighing down the company. So please stop the Fake News. However, there is no contract for FL currently in place so this discussion doesn’t even matter as Frontier can terminate all union employees In FL with nothing but a 90 day notice if it wants to.
I am guessing the company is looking for what unions are willing to work with them during this difficult time. IF they file bankruptcy contracts have to be renegotiated anyways so if the union are willing to give a little now. The company might keep those state jobs.
Please.... nobody works hard at Frontier. Sorry that you can’t see the writing that’s literally on the wall right now in front of your face. Heard Bernie is coming to town this week to break the bad news....
Some of us work hard here and why you'd want people's lives to be impacted negatively speaks volumes for what kind of meaningless existence you live. I really appreciate your contribution to this fry man. I bet you sit home alone and have nothing better to do.
Thanks for your input dirtbag.
When the company gives you a $15/hr take it or leave it offer I can’t wait to see the reactions...
No this isn't a bull post like some of the other trolls on here. IBEW mass text to me and my co-workers saying
at our next meeting, We need to discuss providing an offer to the company for bargaining prior to March 15th and it needs to presented within a week. Meeting is Monday and text came through on Saturday when nobody had their work phones except for me because I was scheduled.
Maybe it’s because people can withdraw from paying union dues this month
I don’t believe a dam thing cleetus, Tyrone, lawfanduh, Juan, Bernie, IBEW and anonymous say!
I wants to know who the union backlog for president. Bernie Sanders or joe bidon? I haven’t had a desk drop yet.
Great news! We have management against the ropes and we are pummeling them! New contract will be announced within the next few weeks. Mess with the Union bull, then you get the union horns. Only thing we ask is that all members keep paying union dues! We are YOUR union!!
What I find as very odd is that the IBEW 824 web page updates from time to time. Specifically under the negotiations tab it stated on January 3, 2020: "Upper-level management within Frontier's labor relations department has reached out to us to say they would like to meet later this month for more formal discussions regarding contract negotiations." Of course these meeting did not take place until the end of February. The update for February 27, 2020, reads"
"The Frontier and Union bargaining committees met this week to resume formal negotiations. During the first meeting, we discussed the proposals which are currently on the table; no new proposals were submitted at that time. Also,we have agreed to establish a subcommittee to work on issues specific to the Tampa CSSC and that subcommittee has met once. Currently, your Union committee is working on additional information requests in order to better prepare for future proposals."
To me this reads as a company stalling technique and the Union making no head way with existing proposals. So the whole "negotiate a contract before March 15th" is someone making it up or feeding a bunch of c-ap to someone. Have a bad feeling 824 will be handed a best offer/take or leave it offer soon! Hope I'm wrong. Don't want to be screwed again.
A meeting with the company or your union? I cant see the company negotiating any contracts at this point. I would assume they would wait until after they file bankruptcy(if they are). Im sure the company wants to include labor cost as being a factor in the filing. If the judge agrees to those terms, our contracts would be rejected and renegotiated.
