Thread regarding United Airlines (United Continental Holdings Inc. - UAL Corp.) layoffs

You'll get no respect as an employee at this place

United Airlines has horrible management that couldn't care less about its employees. To them, everybody is expandable and is treated as such. They set unrealistic goals then yell at us when we don't manage to do everything - when it was impossible to do in the given time as it is!

And if you don't like to be treated like trash? They'll just point you to the door since there are always enough unemployed people to come in and take your place. And if they complain they receive the same treatment. No wonder this company is always hiring, considering how many people are forced out constantly.

I agree wholeheartedly with this post. It's a bad culture, worse in IT. Management is a joke. Being at my new place now, its hard to think how people will live in a toxic environment for so long because everyone says "everywhere you go it's all the same". Heads up, its not. There are A LOT better places, with better benefits, better culture, qualified managers, etc. Flight benefits are a joke unless you have a lot of money already to waste on hotels (flights are not always the biggest cost you incur traveling) etc, or you're okay traveling to obscure places on off peak times because popular flights are obviously full. I'd definitely advise just UA as a stepping stone and moving on elsewhere. Like anywhere some "teams" are not worth playing on and will throw you under the bus if they think it will save themselves. 90% of people i met at UA had a me vs the world mentality, didn't care about anyone but themselves. After facing s-xual harassment here, I made my exit and I'm so happy I did, especially during Covid.

Then QUIT! No one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to stay with United Airlines. There are millions of other employers out there. You should get out there and find out if the grass is greener or maybe rather than the company being the issue maybe it’s you? During these trying times when so many people are affected by this virus and all you wanna do is spew negativity about the employer that puts money into your bank account. Obviously you think it’s all about you and you're not a team player. You should be ashamed of yourself!

I am sorry but I must disagree. I raised 4 children as single mom and as a part time employee. I received medical and travels benefits I would of otherwise not had seeing that a fulltime job was not a possibility. I have seen places around the world for a fraction of the price that I would otherwise only dreamed of. I am a very capable women and very driven.. with that and the employment I received from United Airlines my children and I have had a blessed life. I do know the difference from my up bringing. Being hurt or angry because we are furloughed or laid off is understandable. Yet you some how come to realize that there is something bigger then us as humans, or in our case something not even seen by the naked eye. This is not the time to spread hate or be hateful. This is a time to be thankful for what we do have and pray for mercies that will see us through and believe that this too shall pass.
