WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (KELO.com) – Hy-Vee announced today several changes they are making at their stores in the region.

They are reorganizing their store management to better mentor new store managers.

As part of cutting back from operating 24 hours a day, they said there may be some layoffs as well as other adjustments.

The grocery chain's 30 store dieticians will now be part of the corporate structure to support health and wellness programs.

Sioux Falls has seven Hy-Vee stores.

Below is the news release from Hy-Vee.

At Hy-Vee, we recently initiated a major companywide effort called Helpful Smile 2020, with the goal of keeping Hy-Vee the best place to work and shop in America. Since the opening of our first store in Beaconsfield, Iowa, we have a proud history of innovating to meet the needs of our customers. Today, the retail grocery industry continues to evolve and be incredibly competitive. Therefore, our local stores are making some changes to become more efficient while continuing to elevate our customers’ experience.

To follow are some key updates:

We are strengthening our training and succession planning within the Store Management career path. Starting this week, some of our Store Directors will now be known as District Store Directors and will oversee several stores as well as mentor Store Managers. With this change, some Store Directors will become Store Managers. The Store Manager position will help better prepare those who want to become Store Directors/District Store Directors in the future. The Store Manager will also have oversight of the day-to-day operations at his/her store. This is part of our effort to remain the best place to build a career in retail and ensure all Store Directors have the training they need before being selected for the role.

§ The decision to no longer remain open 24 hours a day and move our business hours to align with consumer shopping trends created an opportunity to reorganize both our overnight and daytime stocking procedures. This will make a difference to our customers as the majority of our stocking will be done during times when customers are not shopping, helping to keep our aisles clear of clutter so customers can have a more pleasant shopping experience in our stores. This move also allowed us to reevaluate how we operate our stores so that we can become more efficient. Because of this, Store Directors will be making staffing changes over the upcoming weeks – which could include promotions, reallocations or reductions – to reflect the needs of their individual store.

To strengthen our nationally recognized dietitian program, 30 of our in-store dietitians will join the corporate team to support our health and wellness programs across the company. We will still allow our store directors to implement their dietetic programs locally.

We value our employees and customers, and want to be the best place to work and shop. Our industry is continually evolving, which is why it’s imperative that we evolve with it.

Changing the stocking hours to 5-1 and 4-12 is going to do just that in our store, that is prime time shopping hours. The retired come in early in the morning and the working people come in at 5-9, so how is this supposed to help? our employees are being shifted around and no one knows what they are doing muchless how they are doing it. I've worked for the company 10+ years and its looking like many that have filed and or sold out.

And it fails to mention that close to 150 in store dietitians lost their jobs without the offer to compete for 1 of those 30 positions. Ouch. And all frozen and dairy managers lost their jobs or were demoted to something they are not trained to do. All this while their is no milk in dairy, no on-sale frozen pizzas and a mom with a kid with allergies is waiting for the non-existent dietitian for shopping assistance. They had no rationale on this "plan". Look at what the top has created. Why doesn't the media follow up on this bogus letter?

About a year ago when all of this started, I asked a Bakery Supervisor how much trouble the company was in. His response was "You Don't Want To Know"

Hy-Vee has problems, they won't admit it but the biggest problem they have is Randy Edeker.

The following is such BS. My Store Director has been doing the job for like 10 years and got demoted to Store Manager sounds like just a way to save some money. I’ve read several places close to 100 directors got demoted. If this is for training purposes then who allowed them to become directors if they weren’t qualified?
