Thread regarding Apache Corp. layoffs

Severance for those who got an offer but don’t want to stick around?

As everyone probably knows, offers to remain in the new organization as well as separation packages went out today.

Those who got offers to transfer to the “new” organization still are required to sign their offer letter. I’m guessing this is for an legal reason. Anyone know what happens to those who don’t sign? Will severance similar to those who don’t take a relocation package be given? Or is there a chance of no severance at all?

Yes, offers were given to people in HOU for most disciplines. And the letter had an expiration date to be signed. So if you wouldn’t sign before that date that means you’d leaving the company.

I haven’t heard anything about this “new organization,” but I’m not in Houston.

It would seem reasonable though that if there is a new organization and you choose not to be a part of it, then you are being severed from the old organization and should be entitled to severance regardless of whether any relocation is required.

Original poster here. I should clarify this is for someone that is currently in the Houston office so this wouldn’t be a case of the office closing or a relocation. Sorry about the confusion.

Yes you should get the same severance package as those that don’t get a relocation offer. The company can’t make you take the package so since they are closing the office and you elect to not accept the package you will get a severance package.
