Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

Halliburton/Sperry Drilling Software

Guys, New hires for Halliburton often rave how great Halliburton benefits are. $401k match up to 4%,insurance etc. let me tell you my story. I used to work for Sperry software several years ago. Got fed up with my manager because he kept postponing my promotion for over 2 years. Finally I decided to move on and landed a job with Amazon. What a difference. Got a sign in bonus with Company stock. They match me 9% on my 401K and I get quarterly bonuses based on my performance. In Sperry Software there is no measure of our performance.. the manager decides whether you deserve a promotion, a raise or a lay off based on his opinion. Which means that if you are chinese you are doing great otherwise you are screwed. Wake up guys! Stop wasting your time working for that company. Halliburton has had 100 years to become number one and they cant make it. Do you really think that they are really going to make it now that they are outsourcing everything to the lowest bidder (INDIA) and letting their best Engineers let go??? Market cap is only 21 billion . That is by today standards quite low. UBER is 51 billion. To the chinese manager who made me waste two years of my life waiting for a louse 5% increase in salary : Thank you. I got out and I am really happy now.

I agree the he should move forward . However, it is important to notice how a former employee of the Sperry Software team with a good job is willing to go to a public forum after two years of leaving the company and complain about his manager. There must be really something wrong with the management in that team. it is not the first time Sperry software is mention in this forum. There are various complains.

You left a couple years ago from a job you hated and are still trolling the chat lines talking bad about the company. I'm sure Sperry is better off. At some point it doesn't matter how smart you think you are. Attitude matters just as much, if not more. I would rather deal with people who make more mistakes but aren't sour all the time than deal with people who take time out of their 'busy' career to hold stupid grudges.

This was on bloomberg today: " (Bloomberg) – The energy transition is coming to Houston and North America’s oil capital better get ready, according to one of the city’s best-known oil bankers.
The oil and natural gas industry is about to undergo a seismic shift as climate change pushes cleaner energy sources to the forefront, Bobby Tudor, founder of investment bank Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co., said Wednesday in remarks prepared for an address to the Greater Houston Partnership, a civic group" If you are a young guy looking to start a career dont do it at Halliburton.

The original poster is clueless. The software has nothing to do with why clients complain. You stated that "The software they are producing has way too many bugs , patches and very inefficient testing. That explains why clients have so many complaints with the tools and logs"
If you knew what you were doing you would realize that the software has minimal impact on the logs generated. The hardware is the main issue. Clients mostly complain due to NPT attributed to tool failures. Most failures occur due to hard ware issues or human error. These things happens. These tools are run in extremely turbulent environments. High vibration, high temperature etc.

The fact that you even chose to compare Sperry with Amazon shows why you had no business working for Sperry to begin with. Sperry is not a software company and the Sperry software is not what carries the business. The actual Hardware is it. Amazon's entire business is dependent on their software. You can actually refer to Amazon as a software company. If you want to critique, don't compare Apples and Oranges. Compare Sperry software/the development with SLB or Baker Hughes. I am not here supporting Sperry. God knows i hate the company, but you absolutely cannot compare Amazon with an Oil filed company that depends on volatile crude prices.

The hiring standard of Amazon is way higher than Halliburton. Phone interview with oral test. Then Online test with 45 min time limit. then a 5 hour interview in which I have to write code on the computer. One also has to be a graduate from a selected number of universities in the USA. Do you really think I was doing a sh–ty job? I tell you who is doing a sh–ty job. The managers in that group. there is no reward system other than you get to keep your job. The software they are producing has way too many bugs , patches and very inefficient testing. That explains why clients have so many complaints with the tools and logs.

Maybe you just did a sh– job and didn't deserve a promotion. I know a lot of sperry and landmark software devs and there aren't many good ones.

Hope you enjoy the gravy train at Amazon. Good riddance.
