Why is anyone even bringing up merit and achievements as if the layoffs have anything to do with them? Come on people. This is Intel, everything is purely political.
I am diverse
Maybe it's time for your job to go to someone more diverse
I'm a manager. I've just got my notice.
I heard that message was a typical "your specific skillset is something that Intel doesn't require going forward"
Guess what, managers aren't getting affected, AFAIK, because management is something they need. The result? More managers and less technical experts.
I understand Murthy just got a $100M retention package. This whole thing is a disgrace.
Did you see any signs before the redeployment? Like outsourcing or project at some risks.
Sorry to hear, I was shoved aside in 2016 after 20+ years and meeting or exceeding every project goal.
At first you could feel self pity, but the reality is there is so much good opportunity out there, hold your head up and go get that better job.
Intel is going like Kodak, GE, and Boeing
OP, what justification did they give?
Sorry to hear that. Maybe your project got changed or your work can be done somewhere else.
Sorry to hear that. Was your whole team hit?
Intel’s pending layoffs will hit multiple business groups, Oregon workers

Managers won't be let go, if they have other team member under the manager. Also, if the project is going to continue, then they need the manager to deliver and give status of the project.
Managers have connections with other managers and higher up, so when they know the project is going to be cut (they have advantage over the little guys like us) they start looking for other projects to work on.
Managers never take the fault for anything - they always have some excuse. It's sad to see how corruption (you may have not seen it as corruption but it is, if you think about it) occurs in so many companies. Can't people just be honest - whatever happened to what our parents taught us? Guess it's going down the drain.
Just thinking - you know how foreigners migrate to USA on H1B for jobs. Pretty soon, we will have to migrate outside of USA to find jobs. With all the USA companies shutting down one-by-one, what is going to happen to us and our kids.
Separation package seems like 9 weeks to find another job (redeployment) and then +1 week per year of service afterwards.
Do not know about managers. The manager who notified me was, and I am not exaggerating, completely useless in a technical sense. I heard even some PEs got notices.
Sorry to hear that. Best of luck to you.
Do you mind telling us what the separation package is?
And yet, no manager ?
Intel has too many layers of management who does little or no technical work.
