My partner is disabled and can’t work, I had to take out a loan on a new car after my old one which I still owe money on was totalled by a drunk driver in a Walmart parking lot and I have a mortgage to pay. Neither of us wanted to be stuck in Indiana forever, but if I have to file for any kind of mortgage assistance program or god forbid bankruptcy I’m afraid we’ll get stuck here. Even if I do manage to sell the house what landlord is going to rent to a couple with no proof of employment? Maybe we could rent a room, but we have 2 dogs and a cat as well. I guess I’m just venting. I want people to see the effects this company has on those of us who were already struggling before layoffs were ever mentioned.

You are wrong, the job market isn't that good. And is the job market good enough to at least pay what they where getting at cummins? No, they can get a job but it may have a pay range alot less than what they used to get. Also if you can't pay the mortgage you will have to sell the house, but the housing market is in a bad place and many people are upside down on their houses. I would like to wonder how many people are getting laid off next week in southern Indiana?
Is it 20 people, I don't think so. From the stuff I read with alot of HR taking over alot of the meeting rooms for next week in alot of buildings it's going to be alot of people.
You will get a several month severance and the job market is great. Situation is far from ideal and I'm not trying to downplay it but better than losing your job with a stop in income and a poor job market. Literally there are more available jobs than unemployed people so dont get too discouraged.
The maximum for unemployment is $390 a week and my partner was receiving disability benefits before we met and he qualified for the max amount which at the time was $720 a month. That’s not enough to cover mortgage, car and food. I’m an Engineer with five years experience so I could borrow against retirement, but that would only buy us a couple more months. 2020 was going to be our year for paying off debt since on average we don’t have nearly as much as some people and could easily take out half of it not counting student loans. If I’m not laid off we are ditching Cummins as soon as we get the bonus.
The problem is that said person is living paycheck to paycheck. And from what I can tell you don't have any reserves in case your laid off next week. Not having any reserve savings is horrible. Even if you get those extended unemployment insurance and training the max for unemployment in Indiana is 380 I believe a week. I'm sure that your mortgage is around 700 or even 900 a month and not to mention the other expenses from as I said mortgage to gas and power and student loans and other financial bills and food. living on unemployment is hard enough as a single man or woman but much harder if your a couple and had a higher cost of living since being an engineer or manager.
I think word is getting out about next week and the massive amount of people that will be let go. As I made comment before the managers have moved people around and engineers and such have gotten knew responsibilities. What I wonder is that will a manager give people new responsibilities if they know they are going to be laid off? Or is it that the managers don't know who will be and so are going by the asssumption that everything is okay until next week?
oh damn, that is good advice!
hang in there buddy, there are lots of jobs in indiana.
Do your part and spread the word about CMI everywhere you go. Boycot is in order!

if you are training someone oversees where your job is being outsourced then file a petition. Save all your documents (emails, meeting notices, etc.) for proof.
