Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

Is Halliburton A Good Place To Start A Career?

I was recently offered a position at Halliburton. I did some research and somehow ran across this page. I thought it would good to receive input from current employees. The stock seems to be down and I read an article about a plant closing. Beyond that, I know nothing what's it's like on the inside. Any thoughts or advice?

If you have other job offers, go there. Halliburton is only a job now, even as an engineer it is not a career.

This is primarily a board full of disgruntled trolls. Bad place for an objective opinion.

Halliburton values Smart Processes over Smart People, as per CEO Jeff Miller.
Need I say more?

I took a position within Halliburton after having a great career at a chemical company. It legitimately k–led my career. The job presented to me was all smoke and mirrors. I left voluntarily but keep up with this site as I have many friends left there.

Been in the company long enough to work with most of the business units (PSL) and support function groups. It's really sad to see bunch of faithful and talented employees either getting let go or leaving, but those incompetent employees who did nothing but reporting up keep getting big promotion and became pretty high up... Those who did well in their job and didn't polish up, can't foresee any career path ahead, and will just stuck in the same positions for years until they gave up. As halliburton said, own your career. So make your wise judgement.

Run Forrest, Run....Go somewhere that appreciates you for who you are, what you can do and not who your Daddy or Sponsor is....Unless you come from Baker and then you can go right to the head of the class....

Seems like if you got a buddy high up on food chain and he has buddy high up also and they are good brown nosers in order to keep their jobs you just might survive ok other wise it will s— and be regretting you ever got involved

Use the offer as leverage for another position at another company you are considering. Management is myopic in strategic planning and bounces from one crisis to the next. Promotion is non existent if you aren’t in the nepotism game. Actual effort and talent are suppressed by low and mid level managers who see actual competence as a threat to their incompetence or it is co-opted by them as you become their personal slave doing their complex or menial tasks at their bidding. As others have said, you can do better at other competitors. Good luck!

Decline as fast as you can. They don’t value their employees. You are just a number to them. They are not comparable to other service companies in pay or benefits. They will use and abuse you.

I work for sperry software and I can tell you that my experience in this group has been terrible. I am trying to get out and start a new career somewhere else. There are plenty of good companies out there that give better benefits and salary than halliburton. Halliburton in my opinion has no future.
