While its no secret that most O&G companies are in dire straights and have been for quite some time, its the big picture that I have never figured out. All of the majors have that one thing in common and that is the fact that they never look past the end of their johnsons into the future at what the business is doing, what is changing in the global energy sector and what might they do different of rebrand themselves to keep everyone busy instead of calling the local sheriff to show up when HR is there to tell you to GTFO and not come back as well as inflating our unemployment numbers.
Back in the day MR E.P. Halliburton never layed off a single person during the great depression but instead had them making fire plugs in manufacturing, sweeping main street with brooms, and other jobs to keep people busy. Now these are different times but there are some major manufacturing jobs that are being done by big companies and even in some peoples garage shops given that they met the requirement for the contract.
So why is it that companies like Halliburton, Weatherford, Schl, Etc refuse to go a different direction and branch off into that realm even though its talked about and preached everywhere except where it matters ( the bottom line). As someone who has walked the walk and worked in the field I can talk the talk. With all of the growth and trying to bring jobs and business back to the USA its about time these companies "get with the times" and branch off into other areas outside of O&G and contribute to the reduction in unemployment numbers instead of adding to them.
With all of the layoffs everywhere I know there are a lot of very knowledgeable, mechanically inclined hard working people out there that could have easily just transferred to another branch of the company.
Now, I know your already saying" dude, these people don't give two sh*ts" and your right, they don't and that's why these once big companies are struggling because the CEOs and the board of directors at all of them have their heads stuck in the same mayo jar trying to breath instead of looking outside the box for a real world solution.
For the betterment of mankind stop counting on a dyeing business model and concept and join the rest of the world in that thing called change. Its constant and going to happen whether we want it to or not. Unfortunately fossil fuels will be out at some point so there's a start. It doesn't mean your cutting the hand off that feeds you but putting food in that hand so you can eat.
So whether its military, communications, alternative energy, agriculture, or whatever there is something else—besides being a has been fallen flag in the history books!!!!
My guess is soon you'll all be in the history books
