Cisco figured it out > Silicon One for Whitebox

Cisco just dropped the big bomb. They are competing against Broadcom for whitebox design wins. If you can't beat them, join them. Have to give Cisco credit for trying. Will be interesting to watch.

Of course this just puts another nail in the coffin of Juniper. They have no chance to do the similar move. I expect Cisco to get tighter with the hyperscalers from this. Whitebox routers anyone?

No one wants Juniper asics. They are antiques. Another poster had it right. Jericho based PTX tells you even Juniper doesn’t want Juniper silicon.

On a similar note, Juniper must do following.

  1. Make JunOS open source.
  2. Sell MX Trio and PTX ASIC Broadway/paradise (I am not sure) to compete with Broadcom.
  3. Make QFX/MX can run the OS of customer choice. Juniper is just OEM.

I don't know if it's "figured it out" or simply "accepted the inevitable".
