Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

A short guide to successfully quitting UP

Use LinkedIn and other online platforms to apply for jobs, and use stress leave/vacation for your interviews. If you’re out in some (-)hole dealing with a section of buckled track or a bridge strike, you can use your mifi to get on the internet with a VPN on your personal device.

UP has people in HR checking other employee’s LinkedIn status to see who is actively looking for jobs and who is a flight risk. Be sure to block UP from seeing your profile while a you search for a job.

Don’t give notice when you quit because they take you out of service right away and stop paying you.

Good luck.

I know several agreement employees that used the tuition assistance. They got welding degrees, electronic degrees, and business degrees. As far as the moving expenses you sign that contract when you move, that's your own fault. Same thing when they move your job. It's also different when you quit and when you get layed off. You just have to read the fine print and decide for yourself if it's worth it.

Yeah not to mention the tuition assistance is only $4500 a year and they regularly turn down requests to use it. Aaaaaaaaaand u have to do another two years from the end of ur last class u got assistance for which kind of defeats the purpose. And as for the weekend warrior comment, yeah this guy is obviously a fake tough guy that goes around wearing Grunt shirts and camouflage bottoms and feels connected to the military.. He almost joined, but.........

To get the full benefits of the post 9/11 gi bill you’ve got to have served a certain amount of time on active duty anyway.

@1for: Exactly when and how with the 24/7/365 operating environment is someone supposed to complete a degree using UP TA?

From your “weekend warrior” remark we can all deduce that you’ve never served a day in your life, as the “weekend warriors” routinely deploy to active combat zones.

Plus, UP TA is just one more thing for them to recoup from you on your way out the door along with suing you to pay back moving costs, and even going so far as to have your wages garnished under court order at your next job.

Go on, tell us more about all the wonderful things that UP has to offer us if we would only shut-up and accept being treated like garbage.

Oh yeah you’ll go far with UP’s $4500 a year tuition assistance program lmao. That’ll buy you two fake degrees.

How about getting a degree? The weekend warriors have the GI bill, plus UP offers a tuition assistance program. Do something with your life instead of complaining all the time.

Seniority isn’t even keeping people put where I work in transportation. People with quite a bit of it are leaving or actively looking for other employment. Things sure have changed for the worse in last 2 years.
