I was offered a job in IT at Alliance Data. Do you think it would be a good idea to join at this point? Are there layoffs expected there too?

This company is almost inevitably being sold so there are no “safe” positions (and your position will be hell until it is). You would have to be really desperate to take this and not sure why you would be in this economy
Run! Run away fast! I have been employed there in the double digits. They probably only need you to take down the computers and do the grunt work. This boat has already shipped, overseas. It's only a matter of a few weeks, if that. Our systems never work, the IVR doesn't work, actually NOTHING effing EVER works...they are not investing in fixing these problems as why would they? They know that the Manila call center will be up and running very soon. Don't waste your time. Morale is low, and it is not a great place to be. You will be treated like a piece of meat, and reprimanded for EVERYTHING. There is favoritism, but no one is safe. They even hire people who are on ankle monitors. Be safe, stay away.
I worked there for 15 years. And the last 3 were all downhill. Culture has took a turn for the worse. They used to win Best Places to work in Columbus for years. Can’t imagine that will ever happen again. It’s had to say if you should take the job. If you are not currently working, then sure. But if you have a good job and are mostly satisfied, the grass is usually never greener on the other side. I would not take a job there if they wanted me back.
Is the job located in India or US?
I left ADS 6 months ago and had a few interactions with info sec management at Columbus. They were good to work with and brought the department a long way from where it was. Hadn't heard they were now reporting to plano. How things change
Like others have said it seems no one is safe except for the EC committee as they sold their souls.
A new CEO is coming in February no one knows the direction he will take the company.
Their are rumors the company will be sold at some point.... This wouldn't surprise me since our company board have ethics that rival the Nixon administration.
Is the position in Information Security? If so, I would hard pass on the position unless you are desperate. Info Sec at ADS has been a dumpster fire for years and was recently reorg'd to report to management at Plano. The Columbus Info Sec associates are going to be left stranded.
IMHO, no one is safe.
Thanks again. Do you think jobs in IT security are safer than others?
Modernization means they're going to try and take the antiquated technology environment and update it. This environment has evolved with the company and won't be easily fixed. It's one of the worst environments I've seen in my career.
Thanks! Can you say more about this "modernization"?
IT is getting ready to do a modernization in 2020, this likely means layoffs outside of the third round in Q1... The manager may tell you there will be no layoffs but they probably are quoting the company line.
Are there areas within company IT that are more secure than others?
Unless you are in need of a job, I would turn it down. There are probably more layoffs coming, morale is really low and I suspect people will be leaving once they find something new.
