Thread regarding Lenovo layoffs

Server market share (revenue) down to 5.4%

Market Share Q3 2019: 5.4 percent

Lenovo generated $1.18 billion in server revenue during the third quarter to garner 5.4 percent of global market share, down from 6.1 percent share year over year. The Hong Kong-based company, with U.S. headquarters in Morrisville, N.C., saw server revenue decrease 17 percent compared with $1.43 billion in server revenue during the same quarter one year ago.

In terms of the number of servers sold, Lenovo sold a total of 204,040 units, up from the 193,121 units sold in third-quarter 2018. Lenovo servers made up 6.6 percent of the total amount of servers shipped worldwide in the third quarter, up from 6.1 percent year over year.

Although Lenovo’s PC sales grew in its most recent fiscal quarter, Lenovo’s Data Center Group—which includes storage and server infrastructure—continues to shrink, reporting its ninth consecutive year-over-year quarter of losses. In 2019, Lenovo doubled down on channel partners while also launching its data center Infrastructure as-a-Service offering, TruScale Infrastructure Services.

Getting laid off from Lenovo DCG was the best thing that ever happened to me. Grass is greener on the other side. Why stay with a company when you’re “Eye of the Tiger” leader cannot get sh*t together.

Five plus years to turn the server business around and Lenovo has utterly failed in spite of all the job destroying.

Thankfully, I was laid off last year. DCG is the worst place to work. Completely demeaning. Getting laid off was the best thing to happen to me. Got my finances in order. Got a much more stable job. Absolutely loved and appreciated. Has a retirement path which could never be done at Lenovo because of worry of losing your job. Now, in 15 years I will retire and never have to touch my 401k from IBM and Lenovo. The biggest benefit. . No more mental strain or health issues from that environment

More layoffs in May. Of course they might be April or June. Lenovo will cut / lay-off / adjust their way to success. Remember US employees are paid far too much. Darn those employees. Would be so much more successful with just some executives and attorneys!

That is a reason that the market is declining. But why can’t we gain share already?

No big surprise here since most everyone is going to the cloud.
