Good move for Cisco. They have the scale and financial firepower to do this...along with their regular quarterly layoffs to power it. :-/
Juniper can’t do this because our asics are obsolete. No one wants them, not even ourselves. Hence why we are building a Broadcom J2 based PTX!
Hats off to Cisco.
It will be a good move if Juniper gets into this market and publish the SDK for those ASICs. This way Juniper can build different business unit and onus on software folks to build quality junos software to compete with white box guys. Juniper models will be based only the JunOS, not hardware.
I would encourage Juniper to do this.
