CTO announced that 2 new SVPs joined. He is only building his empire for a better job in industry. He doesn't allow us to hire a software engineers for budget constraints but splurges $ on his useless VP and SVP hires. To make situation complicated, he has put freeze on hires in all US locations and only allowing for San Jose. We have work to be delivered but can't hire for the position as rest of the teams are not in San Jose. Talent is expensive in bay area, we could hire 2 people in same cost. My leader tells me that CTO doesn't understand mathematics and has a big ego that needs to be pleased. At this rate, he will be short of funds very soon and then we will do what we are good at - "Layoff".

Our new CTO lives there - he cant be expected to relocate for the job!
San Jose is “the valley” and is therefore the center of the tech universe in the mind of many. Top talent can be hired there but at a hefty price. How to pay? Make cuts at the other offices!
I have to ask: what’s the big hoobla with San Jose? Why an office there? Does the big guy want to show his old friends he’s back?
I left CDK about 5 months ago. I haven’t regretted it once. The grass is a lot better when it’s not fertilized with horse sh–
CDK isn’t worth it. There are so many other companies to work for! Get out! There won’t be layoffs. They are simply gonna target people to the point where they quit. Things won’t get better with tweedle D and tweedle A still around lying to M.
I'm just beyond curious (this is a serious question): Why stay at CDK? It's obviously been going downhill for years. I left well over a year ago and could not be happier- I should have left a lot sooner. There's been so many instances in my new role where I have to remind myself: "This isnt CDK - I can make decisions based on what's right for the customer & company collectively." – Even if you don't agree that it's as bad as most believe.. is it the best? The job market at least in Seattle, Portland and Chicago are an engineer's market. Hiring engineers is hard work. Even a middle of the road engineer could still find a company (with very little effort) that's got a more positive culture, better pay and generally a more ethical way of dealing with it's employees and customers.. so again, seriously: Why stay? I don't think most people realize what lasting effects working at a toxic company stay with you well after you leave.. The longer you stay, the longer it's going to take to adjust to working at a normal company. I stayed for way longer than I should have hoping that something would change, not looking forward to interviewing and naively expecting most companies to operate the same... Spoiler Alert: CDK is NOT normal... CDK Underpays, CDK does not care about it's employees. CDK is not going to change...
I think they’re trying to “level up” CDK by hiring high end talent in San Jose. The monies to do so will definitely come at the expense of other offices. If you’re in Portland, Austin, or Hoffman, keep your resume polished, especially if your expertise is in PICK technology.
Layoffs are inevitable. After all, they need to fund the 400 employees in their 76k sq ft San Jose office
