Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

Juniper in 2020 ?

Started off my career at Juniper a year back as a fresh grad. Not sure if I made a seriously wrong choice. Just concerned to know the state of Juniper in 2020 ? Is there a chance for total shut down ? Will any other bigger company acquire Juniper ? Would appreciate any thoughts

You need to look at your own career lifeline. If you stay at Juniper too long, chances are you will find difficulty to get a good job and stay current. Juniper has a cult like culture. Chances are if you are not the “type” you are screwed by location and who you are. My advice is, get out while you can and take the hit to get on the modern tech stack. It is an investment for you career

Juniper is fine. Not great but not terrible. I’d say worry about Juniper less and think more about you and your current role and your boss. Are you happy? Are you learning? Is your boss a clown or someone you can learn from? Are you valued? Are you a rising star? Are you bored? If so do you think you can move to a different role within Juniper?

There are a lot of good things about Juniper. But don’t worry about the health of the company too much especially at your age and level. Do you. And if it’s NOT going well for you (ie ‘wrong’ answers to questions above) then FIRST work with your boss to try to fix the situation. If this fails then leave if you can. Good luck.

You have time.. Don't ruin your career, prepare and interview. Look at all the attritions writing is on the wall. Longtime leaders in US and India have left it planning to leave.

Where's there's smoke, there's fire. Look at the constant turnaround in Sr. Execs with the last one being BK. If a competent smart guy from Google couldn't turn it around either with new product strategy or working with the culture then that speaks boatloads of how mangled the brain drain and political infrastructure is.

Then look at the monthly mass and stealth layoffs occurring. They're calling this a "pivot", but to what may I dare ask? Nobody has any answers. The only truth is that Sr. Excecs are getting paid highly in RSUs while the common folk can't reach anywhere near 100% Target bonus or get RSU refreshers!

Next, consider the stock performance that hasn't gone anywhere in 10 years. Compare the QQQ tech index fund performance vs JNPR and that shows you what a laggard it is.

And finally, the toxic culture and intransigent fiefdoms inside the company that only serve to obfuscate truths which will ultimately lead to an eventual meltdown comeuppance ala Nortel.

Shutdown completely in 2020? No. But don't expect it to be acquired or some other unicorn to come in and save it. All signs point to continued stagnation or even contraction. It's possible parts of it are sold off, too. Worst case would be an asset acquisition, but I think Juniper is actually too valuable for that to happen.

Best advice I can give you, get out of this company. It is toxic, and KM is running GTM not MJ. Finance has ruined the entrepreneurial spirit in Sales, and works in a closed world where it all adds up so well in excel. Get out buddy, quick
