Positive Productivity Gains at Eldridge with Open Floor Plan.

Some employees don’t like the open floor plan because they say it cramps their privacy, but the collaboration benefits are enormous and the only reason many don’t like it is because they would prefer to surf the internet all day, which isn’t cool. If you want privacy, then work hard enough to be designated as a manager level. Then you can have an office.

Don't see how 'open floor' plans are really any cheaper, same wiring, computer setup, space. Just think it's a 'global' (China, India) idea that U.S. companies are buying into thinking it somehow increases productivity. It does help expose the 'deadwood' and gives Managers a better 'look see' who's goofing off. With all the daily iphone & internet surfing it may very well slow that activity down and result with increased productivity.

I've experienced cubical and open floor plans, definitely prefer a high wall cube, but in short order got used to the open/ short wall cubical floor plan. It's noisier and activity can be more distracting but you get used to it. If a good worker, you'll get the job done. Lay out of work or break a lot, surf the net, play on i-phone you'll definitely not like the openness, and will be exposed. If you like your job, are decent performer, consider earbuds or noise cancelling headphones, productivity will be the same. Overall, I see no any advantage to the open floor plan, but Management must be sold on the idea, yet they sit in offices, go figure.

Open floor plans are cheaper than offices. It’s that simple.

How does a construction company on the brink of BK spend $50 MM on an open concept without building any walls? Sounds like our projects,

If open concept is so great and fosters 'enormous' collaboration (LOL), why do we have ANY offices? Because upper level managers like to surf the net all day and watch Netflix?

Gawd what a load of c-ap. If open concept were so great, the cloistered ones would be clamoring for a cube. Try selling your marketing shinola to some other id–ts, id–t.
