Thread regarding CVS layoffs

They say the robots are coming! I think pharmacy tech will probably be an obsolete occupation in the future. Think an ATM that can dispense medication. They might not even need pharmacists.

Is there a way we can all just demand that Larry Merlo retires and things change? We need someone to publish how terrible it has been. Expose him for what he is. He does NOT care about patient health. It is a dangerous work environment filling pr-scrip-ions the way we are. How many days behind is everyone in workflow? Patients not getting their medications and often running out because there are not enough workers to get it filled. “System enhancements” are garbage and often a way to cut the hours even more although they never work the way they are promised to. They just keep piling it on and wanting more but take take take when it comes to hours. Customers can see it and fill it out in surveys and complaints to Corp but they do not care. Why don’t they care? Because they own every PBM under the sun and people are forced to use CVS. It’s never ever been this bad. I get there is a business that has to be ran and money to be made but this is NOT the way to go about it. We are on our way to another recession and Merlo’s approach is a– backwards. Inventory is not being managed the way it should be either not even in the slightest. I have floated and filled in at some stores where it is so terrible that if the board of pharmacy went in there I’m not sure what would happen!

Spoken like someone who has never been to a union store in the company. Newsflash: they pay less than the non-union stores.

CVS doesn’t have your best interests in mind and they are the company that directly benefits from your efforts. There are pros and cons to unions. Why not reach out to a CVS store that is represented by a union and see how they are treated or if it makes a difference. I think you will find the time has come. As far as dues go you are paying dues to CVS but don’t realize it. They make money off of every benefit you get. If unions were so terrible CVS wouldn’t have to work so hard to educate you on how to avoid becoming a union shop.

Unions are useless. If you don’t like your situation, change it. Thinking unions have your best interest in mind is ridiculous. They laugh all the way to the bank, meanwhile getting you $.50 from your employer for every $1 they take. Might as well keep your $1.

Unions have no leverage in US anymore. The country’s that have strong unions have sectoral bargaining power. Which means not only your company is unionized, but there competitors as well. Maybe in 100 years though. Some possible options we do have now are numbing yourself with heavy medication and full acceptance of poverty. Choose wisely.

Everything the OP said is true, but I will clarify one thing... We only recycle cardboard. We do not recycle paper, plastic, cans, bottles, etc. No recycling bins for the store or for the customers either. The amount of recycling that gets thrown in the trash is staggering! Very wasteful on the part of cvs!

The break room “remodel” is an absolute joke!! $100 to remodel a break room?? In this day and age, a hundred bucks doesn’t go very far at all. Do they really care about employees if they only give you a small amount of money to “redo” your break area? Not to mention I’ve seen break room remodels on Twitter, that I know that cost more than $100, so where is that money coming from? Out of pocket by the SM?

Yes, everything we do benefits senior management, but what do we get, other than a job here? Bear in mind the senior execs get a job here too, but also a fat bonus every year, what bonus do store employees get?

Aco’s have significantly reduced hours at the stores making it exponentially more difficult to get work done, with severely reduced staffing levels at the stores.

While the rest of the company is enjoying the holidays off with their families, us store employees are slaving away working normal business hours, because for the store there is no holiday! Corporate is closed, warehouses are closed, call centers closed, field support staff is off for the holidays, etc, etc. ALL CLOSED! But the store? It’s just another day at the office. What holiday? Don’t you know the stores NEVER get a break?

Sadly however, what one of the other posters said is true. Cvs would find a way around anything, because that’s what they do, and that’s what they’re good at.

Eh. There are certain things the union might do to help but from what I’ve seen we are paying more than our fair share for other grocery store/food workers in the same union. When cvs offers certain company wide salary changes it doesn’t even affect us. It took months to even let that 11 minimum go through it. As for the protections it offers for scheduling and seniority, cvs has lots of ways they can get around that with different job titles, and go ahead and call the union rep about a grievance, someone will show up to the store, all your managers will be p-ss-d and nothing will change.
