Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

1 Man Crews

The obvious. I just wish it would be done with so,I know where I stand. I probably won't have the seniority. Get it over with unions.

You definitely will need 15 to 20 years seniority to keep a job as a conductor as per Omahas projections. The UTU is not even part of the negotiating group amongst all facets of agreement employees. Ominous signs everywhere.

If you have less than 20 years or at less than halfway on your seniority roster and are a conductor you seriously better start looking for a new job. If you aren’t your being foolish. The days of the conductor will be that of the telegraph operator. Its going to nearly be obsolete. The FRA has pretty much given the green light for this to happen.

Freight and passenger trains in many countries are partially or fully automated. Automated trains are no less safe than conventional trains. It's about time this started happening on American railroads.

Businesses are not obligated to stifle progress to protect obsolete or redundant jobs. That goes for management positions too. There is no reason to have multiple overlapping levels of management when software can (and does) often do the job cheaper and more effectively.

I'm not sure how it is with other locals but mine has been very quiet about the one man crew for months now. This doesn't do anything to ease the fears of those on the cusp of being furloughed, There's also issues with the local chairmen allowing the carrier to do as they wish, and then telling employees that there's nothing they can do with clear black and white violations to the agreements is. I am not anti-union but this type of behavior should be concerning. Any update would be helpful, as a lot of people already have frayed nerves waiting for the next step in the PSR furloughs.

Well do your part and lay off after call today and it’ll be a one man crew. And you’ll know where you stand.
