Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Woodfield Sears

September 20th a man took the scenic route through Sears and Woodfield mall.
January 1st and the Sears entrance is still covered with plywood, the store is about 60% capacity with whole departments cleared out and out of stock.
The "crown jewel" of the chain is in shambles.

Off subject anecdotes: My late mother worked for Sears at Woodfield in the early 1970's when they first opened. They had a fur (coat) inventory at the time. They'd get women who would buy these coats one week and return them the next. My mother would find theater tickets in the pockets....so it was a rent-a-fur department, it seems.
Also, they had a Polish cleaning crew 3rd shift. One morning the manager found them passed-out drunk, some had even puked in the aisle (wonder who cleaned that up?). Nothing like fine European craftsmanship, eh?

Oh yeah! Because when a rainforest cafe closes it’s the end of the whole wing of the mall lol! Rainforest cafe, how 90s 🙄

I think the closing comment does have some merit. The Rain forest cafe right next door lost their lease and is closing down. Perhaps the owner of the mall (Simon) is going to remodel that section.... expand the dining pavilion upstairs...downstairs could be broken up into several smaller stores?

It's true. Since Elwood drove through, that door is still busted. The second floor has a lot of gaps. No outdoor life winter coats this year. I usually would buy one each year. Our "Good Sears" is crumbling.

If true, that's sad. I know at least in passing since the side job is at their neighbor to the NE. I go in there all the time to visit and make payments. Plus the SYW points back make the Levi's cheaper than at my part-time employee even with my colleague discount.

I was there last week. No mattresses, no small electrics, apparel looked like the odds and ends of a flea market. Virtually everything was 70% off. They aren't even pretending anymore.

One of my family members was in the Woodfield store during Black Friday and was told by an ASM that the Woodfield store is closing this spring.
