After several decades with the "B" you will learn there will be layoffs. The Layoffs will come it is when?. The company doesn't want layoffs, but when you pay high wages & benefits you need money coming in to cover the employee bennies. The 737 issue is causing huge hemorrhaging of money and the company can only last so long having employees sit and do nothing while paying high pay/benefits. It is simple math! If things turn around it will be good for the company and employees. The planes need to fixed & flying and then employees will be busy and money will be coming in to cover expenses. Also, the company will figure out how to sell properties and reallocate money to keep things running. Let's hope things get fixed so layoffs will be minimal. Just prepare and plan for the worst. Don't overspend and live on less now in case you do get a warn notice. Do a side GIG or sell unwanted items and pay any debt off. Ensure you are the best employee you can be (on-time, finish projects, helpful etc.) The company always will fire or layoff employees who don't pull their weight. Good Luck In The New Year!

I was not laid off and never received a warn notice ever. I asked to be laid off because I wanted to retire. Was told it wasn't going to happen. I choose to retire. Had I been laid off I would have received 1 week of pay for every 2 years of service up to 26 weeks of pay which would have been a nice thing. Numerous friends over the years received warn notices and were laid off. It is normal at Boeing and a way of cost cutting. I always planned for layoffs with my finances since I saw them happen. Salary non-union people they have more say in saving. Union is more cut and dried on how layoffs occur. Let's hope the issues get resolved soon and then jobs can be spared.
Unless your Union they get rid of expensive higher salary older workers 4s 5s and keep cheaper 1s 2s.
Does seniority apply to Engineers if layoffs are announced? If heard it does not and depends on who you know not what you know.
Decades at Boeing to be laid off..... you obviously don’t work for Boeing or the union. For the most part layoffs are based on seniority so 20 plus year veterans will likely be safe. Advice from an outsider... bad idea!
