Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

NOV NISKU

The facility that JUST built North America's largest land rig saw 75% of its people laid off before the last module even shipped to Alaska in November. A week before Christmas and Houston chopped the rest, save 8 or so people to close up shop.

This facility delivered the project early, which prompted an early delivery bonus that went straight up to Houston before they turned around eviscerated everyone who just worked on the project for the lasy 3.5 years.

I would say way over 10,000 years of experience was lost; the majority of people making far less than 80k a year.

Way to save some pennies, Clay.

*AlbertaProud, Typical! Blame everything on the U.S. You only have yourself to blame with third world workmanship, Nepotism, High wages. I was there when Poland was threatening to not take position of the rig you built. they did but did not exercise the option for the second rig. Shameful...

No one is buying land rigs anymore. They make their own. The company is run like c-ap, but your analogy of 10,000 years of knowledge equates to having 10,000 years of building wagon wheels. No one needs it anymore. The management is bad, but that's the main reason that facility isn't there. You can't sell 1-3 rigs a year and financially afford to keep a facility open.

And the truly horrible thing about that is that division used to be Dreco Energy Services; one of the more storied companies in Alberta history. If you have a chance on your way out, steal a copy of the book cataloging that history up to their acquisition.
Unfortunately in this province we now work for American slave-masters, who only wish to extract the most dollar value they can out of our resources. This feeds their shareholders at the trough continuously and without interruption. They don't give a sh– about this province, this country, or the people who live here.
While the people who are now out of a job have my sympathies, there'll be no love lost as NOV slowly pulls out of our country.
