Coming from the other side of the layoff. I just want to say the grass is greener. I know a lot of store managers like me that have dedicated their lives, moved their families to other towns or states, worked 12 to 16 hours all the time, usually 6 or 7 days a week all in the name of loyalty to this company. Lots of people including myself did this because of a sense if loyalty that was suppose to be mutual. Don't be fooled. Presidents change, district managers change, ect., everything you have sacrificed for this company will be forgotten. You all know your destiny is in the hands of the next dm and his or her opinion of you. 11 years with this company and I never missed a day of work once. I am already working for another company in a different industry, it is different out there guys. It is greener. I'm working 40 hours, off by 2, making the same money. Kroger didnt just give me severance, they gave me a way out, they gave me understanding of my real value. They gave me more time with my family, and a new life that doesnt revolve around Kroger. Thanks Rodney, and like most people have said. I also hope to see the return of Dave Dillon, for sake of the rest of my kroger family.

What industry did you end up in? I want to escape from grocery retail management.
That's how kroger works. If your DM doesnt like you or if you're not one of the good ol boys gang then he or she will hold you standards that are unachievable and act like every other store is actually meeting those. As if we dont shop at other stores and we dont see their empty shelves, horrible moral, dirty stores, ect. Wake up kroger! Frys Foods in AZ Is falling apart, come walk any million dollar store on a weekend and every one will be the same, out of ad, carts on the lot, dirty, top of the hour is just a joke ect. Then they appoint DMs that have no morals or ethics and only want to fire people they dont like to make it look like they are working when In reality they do nothing, I know one even spends his working hours at the local c-sinos. Sickening.
My spouse actually survived the layoffs for store managers - then was targeted by the DM with standards of perfection that only a better staffed store could meet and that his other stores were not meeting.. - My spouse left the company.. They were working like you were 6-7 days a week 80 hours.. and it was never enough..
