Impossible to Make Progress Here

Why is it so difficult to get anything done around here?! I spend my days chasing people, trying to get answers, and being given the run around. No one seems to know what they’re doing and most refuse to accept any level of accountability. We rely too much on vendors who are incompetent and afraid to make decisions and won’t do anything without a million approvals. It is getting more and more difficult to stay positive when this environment is so dysfunctional. I can’t see how we’re going to be successful if this culture and mentality continues. What is the secret to getting things done here?

cygk is right. What you need to do is record any and all conversations. If they fire you by phone use speaker. Record on your personal phone but let them know (on the recording) at the beginning that you are recording for "quality" purposes so you don't forget anything. In most if not all states as long as the party is aware they are being recorded and its obvious they know it is admissible. They will try to intimidate you into shutting the phone off. Thats what HR does, they count on you being intimidated....dont fall for it and give up your rights. I would also recommend having a "complaint" printed out to submit to them before you sign ANYTHING. Mine is 5 pages long and outlines all of the discriminatory things they have done and continue to do. Conversations by whom to whom with date are outlined. I would add any unwarranted "improvement plans" that may have been used to force you out. Have as much detail as possible and if asked why you waited until you were being laid off you answer because I was afraid I would lose my job in this type of environment if I did. Also include any creative accounting or sales manipulation you know about. . If you can its good advice to get a labor lawyer involved.

FYI as a precaution after new year, ASAP if you are under a manager or director and you feel you may get “severed” please see a labor attorney before it happens and get some advice on what to sign and what not to sign when HR comes. Once you sign certain papers you have no recourse even if the 18 lawsuits win.. explain to the lawyer some of the hostile behavior that some “leaders” have shown created against people over a certain age, gender, orientation, experience or salaries. These behavior are prevalent in Austin among the “gaming “ crowd
Take snapshot of crazy emails/ slack , verbal abuse and mind games you are a submitted to. Ask about wrongful termination. Don’t agree to a small payout.
Do not hesitate to record a conversation. While it may not be valid in court it will allow you to create a transcript . Your financial safety depends on it as you don’t have a golden parachute. Have the business card of that labor lawyer and provide it to the HR person or manager upon being “severed”
Normally in any other company that would not be needed but remember ... 18 lawsuits for mismanagement so don’t think that’s normal day to day behavior or an accident wake up one day and have fallen at the bottom of the industry

Like 4ekd says work an honest 8 hrs don’t ask questions and just say yes. This implies the problem is the engineers...it was established the problem to begin it are the managers and directors that spent their time s—ing up... Let’s remember the lawsuits target management not the engineers... you can work 10 hrs but if given the wrong directionS and multiple 360... well we get the point

The reason the business side is also falling apart is because of the changes don cazzo did by bringing his gamers friends who relish sycophants . It takes one bad apple to destroy a whole crop and now we see it.
Only way is to replace all those directors and VP ....if you have a nickname on this site you have to go destroy another CORP but leave rezi alone

1yqo,
Guy was well known to be incapable of personally delivering anything real the Honeywell CTO had given instructions that he was to be fired a month before he ran...he was considered not the chief fellow or chief architect but the chief documentation because he was good taking notes then writing it down...
Sure enough it is fitting that moobs surrounded himself with people like this... talks BS but only thrives in dysfunctional places that don’t know what to do (so can’t stop him from doing damage) at that job same story he was going to be fired because he could not do the agile coach portion

Don't worry, the super-architect and self appointed chief fellow replacement BB gun will lead us to great things. He has such a stellar portfolio. While part of HON he was about to get PIP-ed before he scurried off to a certain pharmaceutical concern. He was not even remotely considered fellow material at HON and he failed to deliver anything except finger pointing and excuses. He presumably failed to deliver anything at the pharma firm because their IoT platform never materialized. But he is an expert at verbatim regurgitation of wikapedia platitudes on agile and containers. Agile containers...hmm maybe we can make money having him lead a circque du soleil act called "agile containers".

You got Slack, so stop complaining. Slack can save this company all by itself.

1emy - wait let me get paper and a pen.....

WOW! never occurred to any of us. Certainly the likes of Moobs, THe human flesh light and HDG will certainly listen when you call them out on their accountability. Im sure they wont have anyone fired for that. The truly broken functions such as IT (joke), finance (never got anyone numbers right) and procurement (like 8 months to get a PO) will certainly listen when you call out their incompetence and accountability. This is GREAT advice and I wish we thought of this sooner.

Yes, always an option to leave....its really just that easy after being here for a while. No issues walking away from the 401k match thats coming up or maybe the benefits a sick member of your family relies on or walking away from what you have spent dedicating much of your life to building get ruined in front of your eyes.... Im glad I wrote that down...that never occurred to any of us either..

The HR Trolls and incompetent "leadership" are up early today.

lol

The secret is to plow through the brick walls and call people out on their accountability/responsibility hoping that some will take to it. The one other thing you can do is leave, which is an option that everyone has. Complaining gets nowhere, but I certainly understand your frustration.

The secret is lying, and saying it’s done, even if it isn’t. Might even get you promoted. That is the number one rule it the dysfunctional culture that has evolved there.
