All those laid off should start planning a trip to Washington or a protest at UHC headquarters for so as to bring attention to the outsourcing jobs. Apple just opened a billion dollar facility in Austin in response to bringing back their products and jobs to the USA. I believe if Americans new that their protected health info and financial were going overseas they would not agree. I think the plan should have to ask every client whether they want that. The layoff will continue..They are continuing to plan to outsource more positions. Plus no one in the phillipines last. They have a high turnover of staff cause of the poor pay and working conditions. Those workers have no rights.

Just curious....what does AMY say?
Not just a UHC/Optum move. A lot of larger healthcare companies have been doing the same thing. Many are also laying off people.
Uhc has been doing this for years, they get around any regulations by opening official UHC offices in those countries. I would love to know what a lot of members would think if they knew their PHI other information is being reviewed by some unscrupulous uhc worker half a world away! UHC is the worst employer and worst healthcare provider i have ever had the misfortune to work for
I work in M&R customer service, for group retirees. And let me just say this...It is truly sad that the companies these elderly people retired from are moving their benefits centers overseas. I am not afraid to ask for an onshore rep or a supervisor because all those people from the Philippines or where ever they are from do is read from a script. I also have calls transferred to me from people who (from looking on the hub) do my exact same job, because the member can't understand their accent. Both scenarios cause people to want to look elsewhere for insurance (even if it means giving up their retirement benefits) and I do not blame them. I say let them move whatever they are going to move overseas, it may cut costs for now, but in the end they will start losing enrollments and the numbers will start to flounder.
UHC is not the only insurance company doing this that's for sure, BCBS has been doing this for quite a while and Cigna also. Both of those companies have lost a TON of jobs to an offshore company. My company is in the process of letting go of people. Every other week on pay week people are getting ;let go. No one will be up front about it and since there are so many work at home employees they think that people aren't going to notice but that is not the case, just because you work at home doesn't mean you don't talk to your past and present coworkers. Its happening people so be prepared.
