I heard a rumor, let’s just say through the grapevine, that my local Kmart, one of the few remaining kmarts left, would essentially hang on till the bitter end. Assuming there is an end, and not a last second saving of a few stores. Anyway to tell which stores will hang on till the end?

@124qooyv-3zlw Of course there is! Because they have to keep pretending that everything is all okie dokey! They are still sending Kmart emails to my address pretending all is happy for the holidays and still hyping up Black Friday like we have something interesting to buy!
It all will come crashing down though, we all know it, see it, hear it, smell it even. It is all that about playing an elaborate game of pretend at this point but as with all games that are played, the game has to end at some point.
Ironically, there is still a table set up for "We're Hiring! Come work for Kmart!"
Your dubious benefactors are lying (through the grapevine). At this stage, there is absolutely no guarantee your store will be still open on 01/01/2020. Transformco does not have the resources to pay the truck drivers - who is going to move the merchandise (and what merchandise anyway?) to your location?
But if this desperate day-dreaming makes you feel better, while you are searching for a new job (and hopefully - much better one), then there probably is something positive in all of this :-(
No store is safe. They are closing or have closed some top stores.

OP, you need to mention which store you are in, if you want some insight into it LOL. How are we supposed to Know which store you're referring to LOL?
Probably the one I work at (Big Bear Lake) probably will.
