The veteran guys here in Le Mars are close to $23.00 plus full pension, 401k, 40 plus pto days per year and NO UNION DUES. The new guys like myself barely get much for pto. But, $20.00 an hour is excellent wages in this area.

Should work at Le Mars. No union. Our committee gets us anything and everything we ask. Including wages over $20.00 he start.

So why didn't you worry about getting your pension in order? Did you choose to get a bigger raise on your weekly check instead of putting some of it towards funding the pension? You made bad choices. Pension funds have to be contributed to. They don't just fund themselves

Grow some was obviously trolling.
Central States under funded pension did play a roll ($700 million+) in Dean Foods not being attractive to anyone wanting to buy it before filing Chapter 11. But blame poor management for getting Dean Foods to the point where it needed to be sold
(And blame the Teamsters for letting UPS out of Central States for much of the problems with Central States- the problems started before that, but letting the single biggest contributor to the plan leave the plan was the equivalent to Dean Foods letting that snake Gregg Engles steal Whitewave).

You can not be serious Grow some. Dean Foods has nothing to give with horrendous upper management running this company into the ground not to mention "Unionization" Central States bleeding us dry. Dean Foods has paid all dues to Central States for every employee up to Bankruptcy Day. The only worse run organization then Dean Foods is Central States. Worst statement I have read all day!
"You people should really think hard about unionization. stand up and get what you want !!! "

Wal Mart is always hiring. Just think. Going from the penthouse to the outhouse over the holidays. And Dean Foods Le Mars is first up to close to eliminate the high wages.

Well the current leadership did a lousy job I'll wait to see if whoever takes over is any better and what kind of offer they make to me. If its a good offer I'll take it. If they tell me to take a hike I'll take a hike. I know this may be the first bankruptcy many of you have ever faced but its only been four days and a bunch of you are acting like a bunch of kids. See how it unfolds and start making your choices then.

Jason is right. I work for a bankrupted company who was taken over. Everything was wiped out. Told us to either accept change or will be replaced from others who were shipped in from the local workforce agency.

Management is giving all employees lip service in order to keep people from quitting. The writing is on the wall. You still might have jobs. But, once your plant is sold to the highest bidder. All seniority, pay, benefits, perks, and vacation/pto is a complete wash.

I'll ride it out for awhile and see what happens. That being said, I'm going to be looking for jobs elsewhere in the meantime. I've been with the company over 20 years, and I've seen a lot of lay offs and scares. This one is obviously the worst. Honestly, I feel worse for the people who work here with their spouse, though. That's a double whammy.

Frozen turkeys at Thanksgiving and hams at Christmas- I remember those days- GM would actually personally hand them out to every employee and thank them for their work. Later actual turkeys and hams replaced with gift cards and coupons in paycheck envelopes and then nothing. Used to have also have a big offsite Christmas party every year that was canceled with the reason that attendance was down- but attendance was down because half the plant was forced to work the night of the party. Same thing happened with summer family picnic. All those little perks replaced with an occasional cheap company branded trinket that you could pick up from a box by the entrance door and once or twice a year a tray of c-appy subway sandwiches put out in the break room.

Well I've been at my dairy for 30 years. Can remember back when Gregg Ingles and his buddy Tex introduced their selves from Suiza dairy. That was 20 some years ago. This bunch from Dallas has done nothing but take small perks from the employees every year until it just became a job with no incentive to work. We used to sell all the sc-ap cardboard everyday and put it in a fund for Christmas. We would get 150.00 gift card to food lion, which had been our customer for 35 years. We lost that contract last year because of Dean's greed. They don't care about their people, just lining their own pockets. I hope the whole place sinks. They lost my loyalty years ago. Think of all the family farms this company has put out of business because of their greed. I hope my dairy is sold to pay off some of their debt. I know you employees with less years don't understand, but we old timers do. I trust that Dallas bunch as far as I can spit on them.

Too close to retirement to want to learn a new trade. Not many options here even if I did. Hopeful a new owner will keep things running with new management but current employees and spend some money on maintenance and equipment. Concerned new owner won't offer same pay or will cut benefits.

Of coarse management told you no worries. Last thing they want is everyone to quit since the holiday’s are coming up. And that’s when they make the most money. Just a bunch of fools to continue to work for a bankrupt company.

We had a meeting in Le Mars plant. They told us our jobs are safe. And committee is confident that there is nothing to worry about. Full steam ahead.

It is very concerning, although we hear that this can be a plus. I am however concerned because I hear that with a new company , we will lose our seniority. The past 2 years have been constant changes, first loss of job hours which meant losing for myself over 400 off a week in salary. Now we hear that DG may be a lost contract, then this. It isn't easy in small rural areas to find jobs making the same hourly pay as we do at this company. We are hopeful that good will come out of this. Will hang on til the rope breaks! Maybe there is hope at least we are praying so.
