Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Do we know anything about the next round yet?

Things seem to have quieted down a bit, which should be a good thing. Still, I can't stop worrying about the next time, which I think we all can agree is coming. So any news would be helpful.

I know it might still be too early for anything to be known, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. It doesn't cost me anything to ask.

Ppl are basically just leaving now due to un achievable expectations and write ups. Maybe this is their sly way of pushing certain ppl out.. without another massive layoff that would scare investors- Setting standards that they know can't be reached due to understaffed stores

All I know for sure is that some ASM jobs are not as secure as they once were and it has to do with talk about more layoffs coming..

We should start a class action lawsuit against this company. Mr. Rodney deserves to be treated just like he treats all of the serfs below him. HE will ultimately undermine the company with the low quality workers. You get what you pay for Rodney. Your deserve the worst for you treat and what you pay. Talk is cheap and you never walk your rhetoric talk.

They are laying off the local grocery warehouse drivers this week. They contracted the deliveries to a cheap carrier. About 30 people. The contractor offered the drivers jobs for 1/2 their current rate. Expect it to hit every division once other presidents get wind of saving money. No assistant manager layoffs now. They adjusted the business model and will get there by attrition....for now at least.

I was laid off with close to 20 years with the company. Always had meets expectations or exceeds expectations on my reviews, great associate survey results, strong operationally. When I kept asking “why?” I was met with a restructuring speech, over and over. So the “underperforming” line is false. It’s the “overpaid” that are going. My store is devastated and my peers are shocked and terrified. No one is motivated by fear. Good luck going through the holidays like this. Praying for everyone who remains.

I heard the layoffs will come again at bonus time to use that as a "This should help you out financially until you find a new job" and it will be down to one manger and one store director and that there is a merge coming with another company from another country...

I know from inside information. The company needed to cut out $200MM in costs. They told the divisions to get the costs out any way they could. It was agreed coordinators positions would go away and they would fire poor performing store management. This has nothing to do with the customer. These savings are not going into more hours for stores. It was a cost cutting measure and this money will not be re-allocated. GO cuts are coming and I would guess another round of division cuts.

Their reasoning for the layoffs makes no sense,To place people closer to the customer. If you can’t fill the positions with quality associates how the heck do you get more people closer to the customer. This has nothing to do with the customer, only lining the pockets of above.

Just know this... No matter how hard you work, no matter if your performance appraisals are good, no matter if your ID sales are great, no matter if your customer service scores are among the best, and your shrink numbers are good... there is no loyalty to anyone and you could be gone tomorrow. Our people are great.

I'm a manager here in the Atlanta division, we got an email from our division HR lady saying that there are no more firings (talk is cheap I know) but I saved the email just in case. I've heard rumors about another wave coming in January/February after the holidays. Still looking for a new job though lol
