Regarding: "Layoffs??? The bigger issue for Boeing is attrition"
"Had a manger tell me ten guys are waiting to take your job."
If any manager were to act like that, and they do sometimes
They need to be removed for creating a Toxic Work Place.
That's the last thing thing we need is another blowhard.

This is what needs to occur. People need to leave Boeing of their own volition. Then hopefully Boeing will recognize they have an issue. I know the probable outcome will be to say that Boeing is the best place on earth and the people leaving have the issue, but one can hope.

I just wish it was not only engineers. I wish the sheep in the IAM would realize they have amazing skills that can and will be recognized elsewhere. Yet they stay, and they b–ch (usually here on this site)

I'm looking, as soon as I find something, I'm out.

Layoffs??? The bigger issue for Boeing is attrition. In my group (flight line), people are quitting left and right. EVERYONE is quitting/moving, leaving BA with a serious brain drain of their most experienced employees just when they need them most. Guess that whole cowering/pay freeze/lost pensions thingy didn’t work out so well.

Airlines and other are paying 25-30% more for a skill in high demand. Now the 737 program will be in the hands of the most inexperienced (but well meaning) folks with one or two experienced guys scattered in. Just when BA needs that engineering and hands on help the most.

Boeing management in a race to the bottom. Had a manger tell me ten guys are waiting to take your job. Last hiring event, out of 1300, 3 were able to be hired.

Hmm...10/9 has come and gone with no layoffs. That's 3 of the 4 dates given by a previous poster.

While the job market is good, there are going to be only so many openings locally. I assume you want to stay local and not disrupt your family more than you have to.

But back to my original thought. If you want to stay local, do you want to compete for jobs against several people or do you want to wait for a layoff and compete against hundreds of people?

On the flip side, if you resign you may have gotten a job easier, but you are leaving 7 weeks of pay in severance on the table.

It is always a hard choice. With respect to your "I would most likely go back to Boeing", I ask why? Every decade or so they layoff, aircraft is cyclic. Maybe go somewhere, get some different experience for 5-7 years and then come back for a raise and promotion.

At the end of the day, you have to do what's right for you. My take is just not to be like the rest of the union sheep and go back when called. That is a big part of why Boeing does what it does.

Good luck

It’s quite the pickle isn’t it
Send out my resume, starting a job search now or wait for a layoff.
If I get laid-off, what company would hire me as they know
I will most likely go back to work for Boeing when called.

If I find another job and resign it’s a clean break with a fresh start.
My family is better protected as is my mortgage. I Hope, I think, I don't know.

I feel I’m still new to Boeing with more than seven years but less than ten.
These are tough times to be sure with tough decision ahead.

I have three things in my favor
I still young
I have a degree
And I’m not in management.
This last item opens the door for more opportunities in the work force.
I am still in talks with the wife and am not sure what the right choice is.
But my gut is telling me Don’t be evolved in a layoff.

I Agree, time to find a new gig.

Don’t get me wrong, Boeing Renton is a wonderful place to work
with an awesome product.
In my years of service I have only run-in to one psycho manager
and two psycho employees out of thousands of staff… WOW
You couldn’t ask for a better environment.
Putting aside Boeing’s - Work / Life (Propaganda)

Given the current situation, both job market and Boeing’s financial future.
The analogy is, do you want to continue living with your parents
knowing full well your parents are mass murderers?
Your parents and the house could be gone, leveled to a vacant lot by the lake.

Time To Find A New Gig.
