Kinda wishing I would get laid off. I have heard from a few of my peers that were laid off that the company is giving pretty fair severance packages based off years of employment. So far the longest severance package I have heard about is 9 months of pay. If true that would allow me to better myself, abandon retail and find a good job with better work life balance. I think if people are smart this may end up being the best thing that ever happened to them. They can kick back and watch as the company further implodes knowing they no longer have to be apart of it.

I think if they offer a decent buyout on the next union contract, or the one after it, I’ll look into taking it
I think the people they give severances to are the ones that used to work in the main office and later stepped down to store manager and or those that are well known from the company. Not everyone gets a severance package
Definitely in no way a negotiation. Fates are decided before you arrive. They arent asking you if you are okay with it. They tell you if you have a job and where. In many cases new job roles are given out days to one person two days before you are aware it is no longer your position/store.
Every SM, ASM and coordinator in one on one meeting with DM tuesday-thursday. Reading up on how to negotiate severance, how to estimate reasonable severance and the laws regarding this in my state. Came up with a solid cash/benefits plan to ask for. I'm ready for something else.
