I used to do most of my shopping at Frys, AKA Kroger.
One reason I don't is poor service. The people who work there are fine, but the stores are under staffed, so they have no time for customers. At times I have abandon a all my shopping because the only check out was self service.
There is an employee owned regional chain that is better staffed, pays better and offers better prices. A bit further drive, but worth it.
Layoffs will make the company's problems worse, leading to more layoffs.
They bought out three competing chains over the years. Now the three stores closest to my home are Frys. They are behaving like the monopoly they are trying to become.
