Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Managers who found work outside Kroger, what do you do now?

After all of these firings, and apparently the next wave that is coming down after the holidays, I can only hope that most of you that are left in management are at least looking for other opportunities. I for one am waiting for March/April for my bonus check (I am at one of the few stores that is on track for a very nice bonus) and then plan on hopefully putting in my 2 weeks as soon as that money is in my account.

My question: those of you who have found light at the end of the tunnel, what did you go on to do? I'm already updating my resume and any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I got out in December saw it coming a year ago.. so much wasted money on advertising campaigns/logo changes , HUGE CEO bonuses , instock initiative that failed, partnership with Walgreens etc.. it’s laughable really .. I told my store manager in June I didn’t like where the Company was going he tried to assure me but anyone with common sense can see.. I talked with a IT employee outsourced of course who told me Kroger had spent millions on new programs to improve instock.. if a store can’t get in their own 32 packs of water among hundreds of other branded items they are doomed no new program is going to fix it.. they are trying to keep up with Walmart and that is a pipe dream. Co’s Going to ten hr. Days , uscans taking over .. this is not what Barney Kroger invisioned Kroger is supposed to be your hometown grocer they have lost site of that. I loved my job but got out while the getting was good.

“I’m sure the next phase/round will come before bonus payouts.”

BINGO! It has already begun. They are trying to do it under the radar this time, so as not to draw a ton of attention like the first round. A great SM who was on track to receive a $16,000-$18,000 bonus come Feb/March, was terminated, after 11 years in the company, she worked SO unbelievably hard every damn day, 12-16hrs, 6-7 days a week, and cared more about her employees than any SM I’ve ever worked for in my 26 years with the company. She always put her ASM’s and her store employees’ needs/wants before herself, making sure they all got their requested time off & holidays, making sure EVERY dept always had the right tools/staffing that they needed to be successful, and always kept things fair all across the board. She LOVED the job she did, and gave 120% every day, even despite the (ab)normal stresses every SM/ASM goes through, especially around the holidays. God bless her! She EARNED that damn bonus! They literally lied on the termination papers as to the reason she was being fired. The bottom line is, certain someone(s) did NOT like her and wanted her gone, clearly couldn’t even find a legitimate reason to terminate her, so these rotten people lied, and that was that! The worst part is, this is allowed to happen (and planned) and not a single person bats an eye or questions it. I am highly disgusted with this company and their lack of compassion and a conscience. May they suffer the same terrible fate that they have willingly (and in some cases, happily) bestowed upon others. They will have to answer to a higher power one day, to justify ruining peoples’ lives via their corrupt & dishonest actions and behavior.

Retail is retail. Management skills are transferrable. What you learned at Kroger is transferable to any retail environment.

Look at companies such as Target that are growing their grocery business.

It is always easier to get a job if you have a job, do not wait until you are unemployed. Sadly those laid off will be seen as the weak link when the herd was culled when they seek future employment.

Get on linkedin or indeed. I am being contacted by recruiters several times a week about job opportunities through both of these websites. While I was not laid off, if things don't get significantly better very quickly I'll be taking one of them up. I'd honestly like to see some resignations at the GO/Division level.

Come on guys, take one for the team. You cannot be working that hard to justify your salary. It's very obvious in the performance of the company and how our customers are being impacted.
