Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Too much work and not enough help

I have been with Kroger for 20 years. The first 10 years were great. Kroger cared about their employees and their families. The next five years were ok ,not as good but ok. These last 5 years have been a real challenge. There are not enough hours or help to do the job the way it should be done, customers get upset and do not understand that we are pulled in so many directions and we can not spend the time with them that we should. Everyone is being treated like c-ap.. it starts at the top and just goes down to the people on the bottom, the people on the floor who see and TRY to help the customers day after day. Some Department Heads are turning into rude people who just care about them selves and " their " jobs, making them self look good and leaving the ones who work below them fend for themselves... no help at all. There is NO compassion in this company for the people who are trying to do the job of many. This company is not customer friendly any more, it's all about more money for the CEO's. It is a sad day for everyone who works for this once great company.

It’s ridiculous the amount of work we are expected to do with absolutely no help. Working 6 days a week and k–ling your self for a company that doesn’t give a damn about you.

I worked for this company for almost 15 years'
, and then 1 day I had enough of the b—s— and I walked out! It felt like you was trapped in a 'cult' Corporate watched every move you made. Corporate insulted 'Que-Vision' (not anymore than 2 customers per a line and if the third customer got in that line you had to direct that customer to another line or have someone open another register.((Hard to do when you didn't have enough help!))) If Que-Vision had dipped to low on the report then management needed a good explanation to why (plenty of times I just wanted to ask what was I suppose to do pull cashiers out of my a–!?! Maybe if you scheduled more people then we wouldn't be having this problem!)

All cashiers had to be on cashier alert! Cashiers had to stand at the end of their registers and direct customers into their register, but when they stood at the end of their register they had to stand straight with hands behind their back. If they wasn't on cashier alert their register phone would ring and guess who!?! Store management...wanting to know why they wasn't on cashier alert.

Cashiers had to ring items so fast because once again if they wasn't the floor supervisor
wanted to know why, and he/she would try to 'coach' that person to bring up their ring time.

Scheduling goes hack to Que-Vision! Whatever times they was busy during the previous week was the time people was scheduled to work. To bad if there was a snow scare, because you didnt have enough help! Front end managers would then try and call in extra help after they had to ask the store manager and sometimes he would say yes and something's he would say no.

Then, they got cordless phones. Whoever was on floor supervision had to carry the cordless phone. If the phone ring more than 3 times management would call and ask why you didnt answer the phone and you better have a good answer.

Call your local news center and let them know what exactly goes on in your store.

Customers need to stop shopping at their local Krogers. (Kroger is just as bad as Wal-Mart! All those register and nobody to run them!)

I guess what it all boils down to is that store management and the 'big wigs' get their bonus.

Kroger did away their Christmas parties because of 'budget'...what they meant was their bonus!! Employees didn't even get anything for Thanksgiving or Christmas!

Story of my life

I am a gm manager and I honestly think what the company lacks is actual technology in the ways that help us. They put all this money into dumb sh– like paperwork when if I had the right tech I could save this company so much $...

I use to be a DJ at walmart and was offered better pay and opportunity at frys. Cool went to frys. Technology is like it was 1992. When at walmart I cut shrink in the electronics department by half of the previous year. It was around 300k I dropped it to 150k . It was insane . The following year it was cut away in half. Simply because I used the tech available that allowed me to do my job accuratly.

The system would allow you to know how much and where your product was located in the backroom and if it was on an endcap . Counts were dialed in and the backstock scanned 3 times a week. It made life a breeze I swear. By knowing how much and where I was able to accurately identify things that were true outs and things that needed to be stocked. No searching for stupid sh– n.v on slow mover pallets or whatever.

Now I gotta throw loads practically myself. Reset seasonal myself. Lows n holes. Displays . Encaps .. everything myself. Because I have no good help and it's been 2 years and many many many new hires later

I'm experiencing the same thing. I hate coming to work because I feel like I can't get anything done. But management bugs me about department conditions and blah blah blah.
