Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Kroger downfall

There are so many things wrong with Kroger.
First and foremost, Rodney. How incompetent. He continues to forsake the basic business of selling groceries and instead continues to hire consultants and outsiders that bring more checklist, clip boards, and performance boards. I mean really, how many clip boards and communication/performance boards do we need? Can we just sell freaking groceries and try to be happy about how basic that should be? And how much money do we spend on ladder carts, stocking carts, and other c-ap that we dont even use.
When we were doing better as a company we were not making up executive jobs for all these walmart and Aldi people. Over and over we hire outsiders in executive leadership roles. When we promoted from within we were more successful.

If we did actually need to lay people off, and I'm convinced this is yet another knee jerk reaction, why start at stores where our customers are impacted and where we shouldn't be adding stress? There are so many people at the division and GO offices that have useless made up jobs. Cut them and leave the resources at the store and district levels so our people and our customers can be better served. We are not over staffed in store management, we are over staffed in corporate/administrative mgt.

And how in good conscious can Rodney really get a raise during the same year that we lay off mgrs. His pay should be based off how well the company is doing and if we are laying people off id say we are not doing well.

Rodney should resign immediately, as should the yes men and women around him that are helping lead this company to ruins.

Better yet the board should call him to a hotel conference room and fire him like so many great people were this week. He got his severence package with that raise as far as I'm concerned. Send him packing.

I work in one of the division offices and am just a lowly hourly person. I have seen the climate change over the last 20+ years and it makes me so sad. People like Rodney continue to get raises and bonuses that are sickening, meanwhile, people like me who bust their a–, have a cap on what they can make. Things were so much better when we only hired from within. Now, we get people in executive positions for departments they know nothing about. We currently spend way too much time and money on things that don't matter in the stores. WE JUST NEED TO SELL GROCERIES! It's a very simple concept. We can still go after the digital customer and online this or that but it comes down to the basics of selling groceries and giving the customers what they want. Good luck to everyone out there.

I really don't know. But, i can say this. It takes a hell of a lot of planning to pull this off corporate wide. I would guess a year of planning...

Kroger is a dog and pony show
30 years I spent with the first 22 I LOVED MY JOB . As a deli bakery manager but the last 8 I got a migraine just thinking about going to work . They put programs in place that are designed to fail from the start. Someone please tell me why you would pull your tables to do markdowns at set up time. And they wanna know why you’re not set up. Do you have a checklist that you have to turn in every morning by 9 o’clock when you’re trying to get ready for set up. They changed dating policies to make it harder they take a cake with whipped cream icing and strawberries and glaze on top and give it two days while a cake that has whipped cream icing milk inside strawberries with nobodies gets five. I didn’t know if you added milk it would preserve the cake. And why do you need to count how many boxes you have in your freezer, if you don’t know WHAT they are , what have you really accomplished? They went to micro managing and making stupid decisions . I’ve had several managers that constantly talk down to my people. At this point their mentality becomes ( why try , he/she’s never happy anyway . I could go on for hours. But I was in one store I was allowed 300 hours just in deli but I only had 120 worth of people including myself. And deli and meal solutions were separated. But the standards were
Still expected.. glad I finally got out
