I haven't had nearly as much time at Sears as some of the posters have had, but I worked there for six years.
Two years in electronics and four in appliances. The first two years were fun.
Our store wasn't the busiest, but business was steady and I made pretty good money as a CE associate.
In fact, I made more money being a part time CE associate averaging 25-30 hours a week than I did being full-time in HA.
After my first two years, CE withered away and merged with appliances.
We were told that we'd make much more commission selling appliances than we would in electronics.
I fell for it and went in to it with an open mind.
The reality versus what we were told were two different things.
I remember selling a full kitchen with five year PAs, delivery, installation – the whole kaboodle – shortly after we merged with appliances.
Seeing my commission statement the next day was disappointing to say the least as I remember only earning about $100 off of the whole thing.
I could sell even just a mid-range TV with a three year PA (and nothing else) and earn that much, if not more with the SPIFFs and commissions.
