Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Thanos snapped his fingers and all the employees disappeared.

As a manager at Fred Meyer I have spent the last month or so comforting majorityof my union employees that would break down crying due to the potential strike. I celebrated with them when we had learned the company had come to an agreement and they would still have their jobs. We thought the worst was over until a couple days later, managers would see a video from our president stating there would be changes that would better assist our customers. We were all scared. Since then I have been having to answer to my employees if I will have a job... I've never been so terrified of the unknown. I've since heard that some of the worst store managers I've worked for gets to keep their jobs while others, who worked hard, sacrificed so much and missed out on their own families lives were let go with no explanation. This company is failing. They do everything in the name of the customer but in all reality it's for their profite. The CEO can give himself bonuses but heaven forbid we get a liveable wage and a chance for work life balance. So much for Fun and Engaging place that Exceeds my Expectations. Employees deal with emotional abuse from customers and cold hearted comments from upper level. We are set up to fail with the quantity of work we all have, with no praise for the good work we do day in and day out. It's as if we are the poor begging for food and Kroger is tossing us bread crumbs telling us to thank them for being given the chance to have some form of nourishment. I have only stayed because I love my team and I love my people. This place is absolutely Terrible.

It is the same here in Arkansas. Alot, not all,but alot of the MGRs that were Fired here were longterm, loyal, dedicated employees. They cared about we, the employees, also. Not a very friendly store atmosphear at the moment. Losing alot of hood people. Whats goning to be next?

As a fellow Fred Meyer manager I also am sad for our Fred Meyer family of associates. I am one of the managers that "got the call" and will know my fate later today.
I truly believed that after the UFCW negotiations we would be able to breath. Many of my associates have been stressed and afraid these past few months. Now we are in an other stage of uncertainty where some of the core members of our family will no longer be there.
14 years I've dedicated to this company. The gut punch on Monday, and the hell of waiting until today to know the answer has definitely moved me away from any commitment I had to this company.

I just cannot understand the incompetency...the ungratefulness. Too much paperwork. Hours slashed. We work SO hard. SO VERY HARD. I work in the deli. Any one who has worked in one, understands what I'm talking about. They keep giving us more and more tasks to do, with such a low staff. Oh Clicklist just dropped off a 17 item order? Better get that done first. Good close list? Yup, let me just fill that out, among all the other tasks I need to finish before my shift ends(I basically do two peoples' jobs, 5 days a week thanks to them cutting hours.). I definitely do not get paid enough for the amount of work I am pouring into the department. I was so exhausted this last weekend, on Monday I just started tearing up because I was mentally and physically exhausted. I really care about my job. I take pride in it, and Kroger is not making it any easier. SMH

Sorry about this long rant. I'm just so disgusted anymore with how they are treating us all. And shame on them for letting go any one who actually CARED about their employees and WANTED WHAT'S BEST FOR THEM. This is a sure sign that I need to find another job. Because who knows what is next after this...

Everyone I know that was laid off was a pretty poor performer, so the rest of us are paying very close attention to our jobs and doing them well.

The employees being terminated in the Dever area is sickening. Some of these people have dedicated their entire adult lives to this company. The changes made over the past few years are ridiculous. This checklist, that checklist. When did we stop selling groceries and taking care of our customers for paperwork and checklists. These ASMs that are being terminated have been set up to fail. There are not enough hours in a day to complete all of the "tasks" being put upon them. They are scheduled 10 hour days. Forget about taking a lunch break. That is for going through email or filling out some spreadsheet that needs to be turned in. Taking work home is the norm....not an exception. Do some of these people need to go? Absolutely! But it seems like the ones who are getting the axe are the ones who have been dedicated and the ones being kept are the favored or "chosen" children. It makes me sad that such a once great company has no regard for those who dedicated their lives ( and their family life) so that they could be set aside like an old pair of sneakers.
