Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

A few ways that HP can be profitable again

HP just announced yet another round of layoffs. This has been going on for at least 10+ years now. The company that use to be the fore runner in new innovations is now just a producer of laptops and printers.

Here are my ideas for HP to become the top of their game again - HP are you reading this?

#1 - get rid of the motto of "reinvent" and get back to inventing stuff again. Get into new fields if you have to but get back to actually making something new.

#2 - if people are not printing stuff and you can't make them print stuff, like photos and such........find out what people are doing with their photos and videos. Invent something new like a holographic display for desks or tables that will not only display photos but video as well.

#3 - fix your printers so that they don't quit after printing XXXX number of pages. Yes I know about that little trick you pull. I use to work in the test division for prototype ink cartridges and have to call over a printer tech to reset the printers when they just refused to print.

#4 - get back to being the supplier to other high tech industries and get out of the consumer market. Let someone else do the consumer products. Your laptops are overpriced and still don't last longer than 3-4 years.

I know that HP will not change, the only change we will see is them getting smaller each year.

Agreed, 3D is not going to contribute to the bottom line for many years to come ... if ever.

3D is in deep sh–. The business model is basically the same: "it is all about supplies". Except nobody prints anything to make money on supplies. Unless you count tiny blue elephants that line up Oasis counters. It is even worse at 3d Systems. I hear they are about to close the shop. With VJ being the guru and all that...

Get rid of all the worthless parasite MBAs and hire engineers. That's the only way.

Oh, and by the way: Bill and Dave called from the afterlife. Quit embarrassing them by continuing to use their names.

HP is it’s own worst enemy. They actively recruit and hire bright, young, motivated engineers. This is good. BUT this new engineer is sequestered to a 6’x6’ cubicle and provided no tools... only a PC.

Their assignment is to increase printer PPM by 2ppm, or reduce overall product cost by 0.30 cents per unit. This is not innovation; it is putting lipstick on the pig.

This k–ls all engineer initiative and he/she either succumbs to the menial stupidity, or leaves to find a real engineering job.

With perhaps the exception of 3D prints, HP has not created a new technology or product since the Agilent spin off. Just LOTS and LOTS of lipstick.

Yeah., Sure looks like consumers “aren’t” buying their c-ap either!

I'm pretty sure HP isn't reading your c-ap.

Both great ideas and advice! I get why they broke up the divisions. Did they do this the right way? I believe not Purchasing Compaq was a disaster! Hands down! Bloat, dying market. Even IBM off’f their personal computer unit before the HP/Compaq merger. Hello! Nope., CF and the board went path forward. Dumb, dumb, dumb!

HP needs someone like the original founders, engineers, running what’s left of the shell...Hewlett- Packard. Ooff!

This is all very unlikely. They have a ton of money in 3D while isn't helping yet (if ever) and can't afford to develop anything unique. Too bad the name didn't go with Agilent/Keysight.
