Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Severance is Max 4 weeks after you close

They lied to the media saying they would give the same severance offer before they filed for bankruptcy last October it's 4 weeks max payout with many other stipulations that weren't required before last October.....all they do is lie and steal from the employees to lower the bottom line so they can make more in this "transformation".

Not 4 checks. 4 weeks. I got 1 week, then a check for 2 weeks and then a final check for the last week. It was a middle of a pay period when we closed.

@fxm - "And you can get another job or collect unemployment while getting your severance pay."

That statement is incorrect; it depends on which state you reside in. In my state your unemployment does not start until after you've received your final severance payment.

Are you confusing that you only got 4 checks but for 2 weeks per check? That would be 8 weeks of pay. Same with salaried, they got 10 checks but it was 2 weeks per check. 20 weeks. And you can get another job or collect unemployment while getting your severance pay. Whoever said you couldn’t work somewhere else is wrong. You just can’t work at a different transformco company and still receive your severance. Now it is true that they don’t even have to give you severance. It is just a voluntary thing for them to give you severance.

The key in whether or not a company offers severance,

  • depends on what state you live
  • the company must be consistent. If offered to any higher ups, it must be offered to all

Old Sears.
In oct 2018, you would get UP to 8 weeks if you were Full time hourly.
Salaried would get UP to 10 weeks
PT nothing.
Stipulation was that in order to receive, you could not collect a paycheck check elsewhere. SHC literally had people to track down Associates to see if they were working.
If so, they turned the collection efforts over to and hired bill collectors.
Yea, Nice company to work for.

I sure the new Sears treats their employees better than SHC. (Not)

I was in a closing store last November. It was going to be 8 weeks. After the bankruptcy it changed to 4 and still is. Managers now get 10 weeks.

A Transformco human resource person told employees at a Sears closing store that they would get 8 weeks severance. We will see if they live up to that promise. If employees receive only 4 weeks severance instead of 8 we will notify the media of this sham.

"Its not required to pay severence be happy to get whatever it is."

Yes I know. However, if someone says you WILL get 8 weeks severance they need to live up to that promise. Given Eddie's track record of stiffing vendors and not paying them this promise may be another lie from Transformco.

Again, the media will be notified if this promise is not fulfilled.

There have always been stipulations. I have gone through severance 3 times. You always sign your life and rights away. Take the money and run.
