Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Merry Christmas.

I would like to know what the divorce/widow rate is at Kroger. My husband is a store manager working 70 hours a week and gets threatened with something every week. They will never be pleased. Get chewed out about OT constantly. He will be replaced before the funeral.

We get asked by management to stay and work o.t. Then we get in trouble for working the o.t. by the people who asked us to stay. I literally just had a manger yelling at me for trying to leave on time. I was told "We have a corporate walk thru, you don't leave until the jobs done, this goes for anytime". A week later another manager got mad at me for staying to make sure my job was done. Yet every day when I walk into my store I hear overnight managers say how they worked 12 - 15 hour day the day before, but none of their work was completed. Then they tell us we need to do our jobs better and help them with theirs. I know where the waste in my store is and it is not the average employee.

Reducing expenditures (OT) is absolutely one of the markers they are looking at when they make decisions about management layoffs. Your experience OP is sadly not isolated to your husband.. They are all over every one, especially about OT.

Holidays, weekends, family events, kids games. We all gave up our time. We knew that was the cost for good pay and benefits. After paying that price to be handed the pink slip is a slap in the face.

My old store was very large, with clothing, home, out door garden center... I don't know how many brands have these. We sold car batteries too I found out from people who broke down late at night. Haha. And once our deli had 3 workers total. And our coffee shop had 2. Why? They were coherced by this guy in front end to give him stuff for free. He was having a hard time but he was a great manipulator. Everyone's best friend. But a real sociopath in the end. In total 9 people and himself were fired. One was a cashier (we we're low on deli staff anyways). I kinda saw the signs when he talked about hurting a customer when everyone laughed he kinda... Yeah. Glad to not work with him. All the kids who got f—ed into going to the deli, we're told sh– about moving to the bakery. Hilarious. So many of them just quit once they realized they'd have to spend 6 months.
