Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Over 60 ? 65 ?

I would not make any long term plans. You will be asked to "retired". No Exceptions !

OXY had better be careful with getting rid of more age 60-65 people. Valuable Technical skills in this age group were lost in the last VSP, now Technical support millennials do NOT have the knowledge, skills, etc these older people had. They served as mentors to the younger groups. It has been mentioned several times some frustrations the younger ones lack initiative, motivation, problem solving skills and proactivity. Which are valuable skills for OXY to stay viable, operate efficiently yet all the while cost cutting. OXY doesn’t need to make the same mistakes PXD just made this past summer, their IT & Geosciences depts are falling apart over lost skills due to ISP, SP’s, RIFs and have not been able to replace these positions because not the right skills.

Exactly - high overhead with mostly millennials is the chaotic situation we have now. No experience in integrations and building organizations. All you hear is those incompetents were asked to slow down the process but in reality no time in world would be sufficient to make simple decisions. Old experienced VPs left incomers to have their cake and eat it too. However, gluttony often does not pay off. The only collateral damage is those unable to justify CoC by now.

"the older you are, the more you make"...so NOT true. Vicki thinks Oxy can be run by millennials alone and Oxy pays them very well. I guarantee you that the younger folks around you (with much less experience, knowledge and loyalty than you) are making way more and receiving larger annual bonuses, retention bonuses, benefits (more pregnancy leave), etc. Their overhead is actually higher these days. Anyone over 55 who didn't quality for or take the VSP should be worried about a layoff.

I hear a lot of people from the Anadarko acquisition want to leave, so maybe us 60 plus will be needed for a couple more years. Also, I think the money has more to do with it than age. The older you are the more you should make and the more benefits you should be using, so your overhead is higher. It just so happens all that goes with age. At least Oxy gave good VSP packages, and if I get one at 62 or 63 I can stretch that to 65 as long as I can find insurance. Thing is age will win most of the time.

No way! You saying age discrimination? Never happens, because, after all, it’s illegal!
