Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

The time we spend away from our spouses and children is not worth it

The anxiety and mental stress that comes with this job is not worth it. The time we spend away from our spouses and children is not worth it. We'll never be enough for them until we're living at the store 24 hours a day and running the stores so they can keep cutting hours and save their bottom line. It's a damn grocery store. Not NASA.

They always tell my husband that family comes first. As he misses birthdays and anniversary’s and holidays because salary managers work 14 hour days. We never eat dinner as a family and he always goes in on his days off and even on his vacation days. I hate Smiths

The new definition of work-life balance. “Don’t let your life get in way of work”. It’s all b/s. You want time off during a holiday week-end? Or IF some big wig MIGHT be in town that week? Forget about it. Your not getting it.

That's our business, it never stops. Sometimes I wish we'd be like Germany where almost all stores are closed on Sundays, and they typically close at 7pm. Realistically, do we need things to run 24/7? Realistically, it'd be better for everyone to have a super slow day where nothing, including shopping takes place - spend time with family, talk, relax. Let's do that on Sunday.
