Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Love Lost

My heart hurts for my husband right now. He has given his entire life since he was just out of high school to this company. He missed birthdays, holidays, soccer games, family dinners and vacations in order to give his all to his job and provide for his family. Kroger is never satisfied. They just keep pushing for more. Taking hours away from the store, taking managers away from the store... expecting management to work well over their required 50 hours a week but then wanting to pay them the least amount of money possible for it. Threatening their jobs for reasons that the managers themselves can't even help. Honestly, this company has been going down hill for a long time. Stop letting a job steal your life and your families away from you. In the end, everyone is expendable to them. If I were the ones not getting laid off during this "re-structure" I would for sure still be looking for another career. The months to come are just going to be Kroger asking you to make up for the work of all those loyal employees they just let go and giving you nothing in return for it except the "privilege" of still having a job. Find something that allows you to spend time with your loved ones while you can. Find a job that's just a job and not a thief of your skills, hard work, and time. My husband has not gotten the call yet, but you can be sure that he is making calls of his own.

Sorry for your predicament but you are not a victim. Giving up years of birthdays, missed family events, kids growing up etc. is a fool’s choice. Don’t blame an employer for your misplaced priorities.

I dedicated 6 and 7 days a week ,I worked on my days off,I also worked on my vacations.the stores I was in were number one in Id sales versus the years before ,our retention was excellent and our shrink was great, yet I was still let go.This has nothing to do with good workers and bad workers ,Kroger’s just raised the minimum wage to 11 dollars an hour from 9.65 an hour and that money has to come from someplace. It surely is not coming out of the pockets of the district managers and the higher ups who are bleeding this company to death knowing fully well that they will not be around to face the consequences when it goes out of business.

No sure why all the layoffs and restructuring except to make the company stronger. That being said, a lot of good people have just had their lives turned upside down in the name of profits. I see less “Treating People Right” and more corporate BS. I know of a couple people that probably should have been let go, the rest should have been able to keep some kind of position with the company. They have all sacrificed their family life for this company. This was not the way to treat them, all of them and us that got to watch this horror show unfold in front of us. Now we all need to wonder if it will happen to us in the future. What a disgraceful way to treat your people. I hope the Executives who came up with this plan cannot sleep for then duration of this plan and when they go on vacation, they are reminded of the associates they crushed to get them to where they are.

I was one that got “laid off” yesterday after 12 years with the company.

The lay offs are happening. It’s real. It happened to me and a lot of people I know.

This company does NOT care that you dedicated all those years to them and missed out on so much.

Get rid of them.... do not give them a chance to get rid of you first!! There is no Careers at Kroger... sad but true i am so happy that i left 2 years ago. God Bless all of you hard workers.. Karma will soon find the higher ups also!

ASMs getting laid off should look at this as a blessing. Take the severance pay and get the hell out of dodge. Find something good for your family and good for your mental well-being.

I am giving the same advice to my wife. Even if she does not get the dreaded call, we will still be updating her resume and getting it ready to find something else. This is just going to keep happening and just because you survived this round, doesn't mean you'll survive the next. She already misses so much of our children's lives... I just know that with losing all these people management is going to be required to work even more. It's not worth it. No job is worth it. Especially one that puts so little value on the associates that actually give their all and make the company great.
