I'm sorry for all those unfortunate people that have been let go. It's going to be okay, I went through UTIs layoff a few years ago and made it just fine. I doubt the people who got let go would post here during their severance payout.
When I was exiting the company, I was told my severance pay would get cancelled if I posted anything negative about the company online and was asked not to reveal the amount. I had to wait three months until my severance ran out before I could post anything.
I'd like to add, the company UTI hires to help those laid off get a new job was extremely unhelpful. I don't know if they're still using that company. At least they can help refresh your resume. Go to places like Glassdoor and HigherEdJobs. The Cobra plan s—ed, my severance would have been gone faster had I chosen to pay for it. It's October, and you get two months "free" per year where you don't have to pay a tax penalty for lack of insurance, so it's ok to finish the year November/December without insurance ad long as you ask to be except from having healthy insurance when filing 2019. It's ok to go without insurance January and February 2020 as well, but any month beyond that, there could be a penalty. Just what I learned from my layoff. You do not have to continue with Cobra after your health insurance runs out.
I'm so sad to see this. My co-workers were really the bright spot during my time at UTI. Like the poster above said, everything will work out. I left earlier this year when I saw the writing on the wall. My heart breaks for those still there :(
