Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Who will do the work?

If Kroger is laying off a bunch of managers, I have no idea who is even going to work at the story I'm employed at.

Our hiring system is a mess and we can't actually get anyone through the process, and most of the people there barely work as is.

Most of the work is left up to the leads and managers, so the store might just fall apart.

My son works at a Krogers in California. If you keep cutting the most important people from the stack, the quality will go down, and then, Kroger looses and perhaps becomes the bane of existence.

No one is safe. Once salary employees are gone, the next step is high tenure associates at top pay. This is gonna come in waves like every thing else in Kroger. I hate this as much as anyone else, but the sad truth is no one is safe. Hourly have a union, but how long will they be able to stay afloat when a lot of new associates don’t even know they’re rights. This is a true one team one dream situation. Kroger will continue to get away with this s— until we all make a stand.

As I am reading this, I see it is like that at a lot of stores. My sore, a handful of people work their tails off, others just waste time all days. Management knows and won’t do anything. I won’t be there much longer. I am waiting to see what they do with our health benefits this year.

My store manager has managed to keep her job, but I don't know why. She does nothing to help her employees and the only decent co-manager we have is being run into the ground doing all the work. Been with this company for 11 years and I no longer enjoy going to work.

Department Heads got nothing to worry about, this is salary based workers that have to worry.

" department heads are in the clear"- probably but this adds to our workload which is already heavier than ever. We've already been told that we will be relied on as managers on duty which will take us away from our departments and we will still be expected to get the job done. They will tell us that we can get those hours to someone else in our department. Who? My assistant who's already working 40 hours (and we're not allowed over time) or my part-timer who takes 40% longer to do any task than it should take? And no we can't find anyone to replace him because nobody wants to work.

Store Managers ARE doing a majority of the work in stores. My husband works as a glorified produce, meat, dairy, grocery, and even floral lead. Store Management can't get their actual jobs done because the stores don't give their departments any hours to bring actual hourly associates in to do the jobs.

Pretty sure it’s only salary paid management, store managers and coordinators. Department heads and assistants are in the clear from what I’ve heard.
