Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Kroger co downsizing 2019 and 2020

Is this true, and if it is, how much is Kroger cutting?

What groups and what locations?

Any stores closing?

Good thing the CEO got that $10 million BONUS before they decided to cut costs.

I bet they are trying to force department managers to be co managers too. Why else would they give clerks and co managers a raise and skip department heads? They also are not allowed to step down. It's either quit, stay where you are, or move up. They will get new comanagers they can pay less.

The Atlanta division is supposed to lose a mix of 186 unit managers, ASMs, and district staff. We find out Friday who gets cut.

This true, the entire enterprise will have RIF’s. It really makes you wonder if we are truly living by “passion for people, passion for results”. Good luck to everyone over the next few weeks. It’s a very sad day in the industry.

So far I’ve heard in the Ralphs Division 56 Salaried Store Managers and ASM’s have been let go with a severance package.

Well - if the idea is to "The idea is to make the store manager position that people want again" and if we are laying off store managers would not that be a really bad move?

  • Executives want to get the best of the best back into stores
  • For the longest time if you were good you wanted to be a coordinator. You got to be out of the stores and travel around!
  • The idea is to make the store manager position that people want again
  • I don’t see it working but it’ll make people step up their game

My understanding of changes:

  • New Structure: District Manager, Three Coordinators, Store manager
  • There will be less assistant store managers depending on store sales (no longer divided into 3 - groups) they will work everything, no silos.
  • There should be less email, more directo communication
  • Simpler communication
  • Less folks giving commands, more people doing things

Store managers are currently being let go or forced to retire. Allegedly on management level, at least 100 from Mid Atlantic region and 90 from the Delta region. The district level coordinators team is being "streamlined" and cut in half. Things will be announced on store level by Friday and the next two weeks for districts.

I've heard that the reason this was happening was cause the coordinators and mgrs made too much money... Anyhow, they were looking to make entry level positions more competitive in payment, to offer more. We'll see what happens.

ASN's are being reassigned, their importance is reduced. I think they will have to take a pay cut...

Upper coordinators are in trouble too...

The rumor is that all district coordinators will be eliminated – they will be dropped to store level positions.

I think there is a layoff happening right now, I left in 2018 though - so at this point in time this is all I heard from my ex coworkers
