Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Management Layoffs are Happening at Kroger (October 2019)

All Kroger folks with upper mgmt titles were told at the same time that they might not have their job next week, they know it…

They will inform the managers that are being downgraded and demoted, and they will tell it to the ones who are being laid off from Kroger on Friday.

At this point, nobody is safe – period. This is both good and bad. We’ll lose some bad managers which is desperately needed but some good managers will be affected too. That’s bad for Kroger, Kroger’s customers and employees alike.

Actually it was Mike Donnelly COO and Steve McKinney Senior VP:Retail they have talked about this for the last year so if you want to point fingers. Ralphs and Fry's know them very well.

I worked for Fred Meyer off and in for almost ten years. I finally got fed up with being treated like dirt and found another job. It's not a lot better, but is better than there. There is a big turn over because the upper management treats the lower level employees like dirt and thwn wonder why people keep calling out. I was nice wnough to give two weeks notice, but won't go back to Fred Meyer. Its not worth it.

Fred Meyer is the most f—ed up backwards, unorganized, antiquated POS company because of Kroger. They really f—ed everything clean up. They ran it to the ground and seem to be on the verge of going out of business. Theyre just now realizing how badly Amazon beat them 10 years ago,

I'd like to know who made the decision to layoff fire these managers and of course I'm sure they will blame the new contract that was just signed in for a 2 dollar raise over the next 2 years which is a joke we get 20 cents this month. I'm sad because my awesome boss got fired and now who are we getting another Kroger zombie manager

Guess those 1+ Billion in tax’s cuts weren’t enough. How’s that for a trickledown? Cut jobs, then trickle up! Surprised? Not really. Anyone who believed that should be the first ones fired! This is the world we live in. Survival of the wealthy and screw the rest. Hope you’ve saved money! Sorry 😐

This wasn't based on the survey. Same thing as someone else just said, PED's played a part in this plus if you are hitting your numbers all that type of stuff i'm sure.........sad day and or week for alot of people in Kroger land

All of our conference calls, ktvs, training classes... Everything's cancelled. We're all in limbo right now.
Had a store call me because they had an issue but didn't know how to call now that the FEC is gone.

From what I gather they mostly went off of the yearly PEDs.

If your manager had a lot of complaints they likely also had poor PEDs.

The Survey is still ongoing?

We usually don't get the results from The survey for a while

Odd that no one in our district below 40 was let go. Only senior managers. Most of them great people. Think about the missed birthdays, missed dinners, late nights, on call, long commutes, working holidays....these managers have given their all and their loyalty for a company that has not given their loyalty back. Sad. A very sad week in Kroger land.

18 CoManagers and 3 Store Leaders were laid off yesterday in the RVA area. Their motto is feed the human Spirit, how is this feeding the human Spirit at all?

The company needs to cut costs, so that they can continue to battle with the likes of Walmart and Amazon. Kroger is not a non-profit and has to ensure that they remain for the next 100 years.

It is sad to see folks lose their jobs, but I would bet that they are not starting with the effective leaders.

It’s happening day after day in the Denver Metro area at King Soopers.
No rhythm or reason to how they are firing, demoting and giving “early” retirement to.
Scary and so sad

I’m told from a friend who works on the Fred Meyer campus in Portland, OR that armed security is on site today (Wednesday 10/2) and that 20-25 district-level managers have been let go.

I am just appalled at the way Kroger is treating their workers. Many of the workers and managers at my local Kroger have become true friends. They work hard, work long hours and half the time the store is under staffed. Shame, shame, shame on you Kroger.

This is happening in Colorado as well, store managers have meetings this week, and asm's have meetings next week. It makes you wonder if there's a merger coming or the company is going to sell. At least our area has been top-heavy with management and low on employees, but it doesn't look like they're getting offers for another position. The rumor as it stands 10 store managers have been let go. And possibly more to come :-(

This is all very sad. Kroger doesn’t have the long term vision to realize the impact this will have on the stores. Here at Ralph’s everything changed after the UFCW strike of 2003-2004. There was a palpable change in the morale of the associates and everything started to go downhill over the years. This will only reignite that feeling of betrayal and ensure that the companies “Core Values” are mocked again. Kroger is gonna have to replace all the propaganda posters in the stores regarding “Core Values” and “Uplift” cause those will be vandalized within days.

Kroger is unpleasant. Kroger has a great deal of impoverished indentured servants. However, they are in competition with a River company run by a Beeshole. The myriad articles about 'independent' delivery personnel NOT employed by the river company, but under its directions, causing accidents and the urine colors to be concerned about in its warehouses present as slavery. The lack of interest by the American people indicates slavery is just fine by them. The hemorrhaging of Kroger will get worse, the longer the company of slaveholders remains in business.

I am curious if Kroger is releasing their older management employees they offered a buy out a few years ago to all the office employees over 55. I am retired but Kroger is extremely discriminatory towards older management employees. I would love to see them end up in a lawsuit. I could do my job fine till I turned 60 then the next day I became the worst manager ever. LOL
