Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

New way to get rid of employees

Both layoffs and firings seem to be too expensive these days for those in charge of Verizon. No, they have a new method of getting rid of employees: they keep adding more work and pile on stress and criticism until employees simply can't take anymore and end up running out a door themselves.

That's the kind of company we are working for these days.

My dad went through this 50 years ago with a major corporation. It's not new. Don't be a s—er and work more than you are obligated to work. Don't be a dork about it, but don't throw your life away for this place either.

This is far from new. They have been practicing this tactic for many years in wireline management.

@ggl I don't know on what grounds you think you have a class action lawsuit. You are talking about at-will employment here. There is no contract between these employees and the company. They can make up whatever rules they want. If you are miserable in your job, just find something that makes you happy. And just so you know where I'm coming from, my job was outsourced, so I have no loyalty to the company. This is corporate America.

Now what they are doing in sales departments is just raise quota to an unattainable and unreasonable and unrealistic amount till they can make you so miserable and coach you out of the business.

They then give you the ultimatum to resign or quit so they do not have to pay unemployment.

I am a manager I know the game. I collected enough data to go to the media but an isolated handful of cases wont help. I need a wide variety and in multi- region complaints and accusations in order to corroborate the story and file a class action lawsuit.

Or if someone who has been through this files a lawsuit I will give testimony gladly.

Love the last post. It is your boss's problem to staff adequately in order to meet deadlines on deliverables.

I hate this place so much. I used to love Vz until they started treating us like garbage. They deserve what will eventually come to them.

Realize there is only 8 hrs in a workday. If you are pulling 10 and 12 hr days like I used to, then there is nobody to blame but yourself for accepting that. If the work doesn't get done, not your problem. It is incumbent upon the company to staff at reasonable levels. Once you adopt that mindset, your stress will decrease.

You just have to be more hard headed than they. Out in your 8 hours a day, ignore the gripping and stress and do your job the best you can. F em.
